FULL TITLE: Why I finally let my son buy a dress: Father's moving story about coming to terms with his five-year-old's true identity
father has opened up about how he came to terms with his young son's love of girls' clothes and toys.
Yuvi Zalkow, a writer based in Portland, Oregon, writes in an essay published on Medium.com that when his son first started exhibiting feminine qualities, his instinct was to fight against it, attempting to steer him towards superhero action figures instead of dolls, dresses and nail polish.
But ultimately he came to realize that the most important thing was the boy's happiness. 'Who the hell was I to tell him another way?' he writes. 'What is blamable here? This is being alive.'
His son was four years old the day that Mr Zalkow, carrying him home from daycare, worked up the courage to take him dress-shopping after he had expressed his interest in girls' clothes for months.
At the Goodwill store, 'he pulled me to the dress aisle like he had been shopping there a thousand times before,' writes the author.
'He picked two pink dresses with flowers on them, one skimpy dress that seemed inappropriate even for a girl, and a white one that seemed only fit for a wedding. "Dada," he said as he handed the white one to me. "I love this one the most."'

Good thing I read this. I bought some ice cream and thought I left it out. It’s safe and frozen though.
Okay, some common sense, here.
Starting in the 1960s, with experiments duplicated in the 1980s, scientists established that *psychologically*, gender is determined about halfway through fetal gestation.
That is, by default, the brains of mammal fetuses are female. But halfway through gestation, the testes of a male fetus secrete a small amount of testosterone that travels to their brain and tells it that it is a male brain. If that testosterone does not arrive, it remains a female brain.
Importantly, brain gender is enough in *animals* to determine sexual behavior. BUT IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO DO SO IN HUMANS.
If a female fetus gets that testosterone, the child will be physically female, but will behave like a “tomboy”, enjoying masculine behavior. BUT IT WILL NOT DETERMINE HER SEXUALITY. She may be a tomboy, but it is just as likely that she it heterosexual and attracted to boys, as it is with ordinary girls.
And the same is true with boys. If something interferes with or inhibits the testosterone going to their brains, they will exhibit female child interests. They will want to play with dolls, dress in a feminine fashion, and do other things that girls like to do.
BUT THE VAST MAJORITY OF THEM WILL NOT BECOME HOMOSEXUALS.
Statistically, they are just as likely to be heterosexuals as are all boys as a whole.
Importantly, most homosexuality and heterosexuality does not begin in childhood, but adolescence, so completely different biological mechanisms are involved.
Boys act like boys, and girls like girls, so most people *assume* that this behavior determines their sexual attraction. But this is NOT the case.
Homosexuals of both genders divide into camps, the “pink (feminine) and blue (masculine)”, and among men, there might be an even divide between feminine and masculine (even excessively masculine) homosexuals.
That is, male oriented gay bars are almost evenly divided between those with feminine orientation, and those that look like “blue collar” bars, filled with working men in construction, police and fire departments, bikers, etc. Somewhat “hyper-masculine” in behavior.
So, the bottom line is that juvenile gender behavior is NOT a good indicator of sexuality. This boy who wants to wear dresses will likely grow up to be a normal heterosexual.
Ha ha ha. True story, I ordered some underwear online and they stuck a female pair in the order.
“Ive worn a dress before....for a Halloween party. The kids saw me.
Which is why my son will never do it.”
Aww come on!! What were you? A witch? I bet it was cool!
No worse than when Humblegunner came to my door at Halloween in Mormon Underwear!!
Well, alrighty then ...
TOO FUNNY LOL
not scary like Humblegunner’s
Mental illness is not a “true identity”
It takes a Village “Idiot”.
The fruit of the Sixties Generation...parenting by abandoning your child to stupidity, and encouraging deviance.
It is called liberalism...
I told her..yes...I forgot to buy HIM a rifle. The lady thought I committed a crime.
Bump
Michelle Obama sans makeup...
Not if these parents and others encourage it to the point where they won’t allow him to start acting like a boy. There was a lesbian couple who have their 9 year old boy on sex-change hormones.
Pure child abuse
Maybe the parent should make him wear it, then take him to a Rodeo in it. Bring along his britches, and when he decides he should start behaving like a boy, he will realize the foolishness of his thinking.
Basically, it childish thinking looking for attention. You can ignore him and discipline him to get his attention, but it depends upon the volition of the person.
The real challenge is not to ever be happy or satisfied with him arrogantly misbehaving or living in sin.
Oh, that's a good use for it, but there are other reasons to buy nail polish.
Back when my fumble fingers were less fumbling, I used it regularly when tying flies or building lures; and to coat rod wrappings when replacing a eye.
It also came in handy to waterproof coat whisker-wire electrical solder joints, when things were actually repairable.
Since G-d told man not to dress as a woman, & vice versa, I assume this is not his will.
Should’ve bought a woodshed, idiot.
See post 32, above. It would also fit nicely as an excuse if the wrong woman found it in your glove box. ;-)
