FULL TITLE: Why I finally let my son buy a dress: Father's moving story about coming to terms with his five-year-old's true identity
father has opened up about how he came to terms with his young son's love of girls' clothes and toys.
Yuvi Zalkow, a writer based in Portland, Oregon, writes in an essay published on Medium.com that when his son first started exhibiting feminine qualities, his instinct was to fight against it, attempting to steer him towards superhero action figures instead of dolls, dresses and nail polish.
But ultimately he came to realize that the most important thing was the boy's happiness. 'Who the hell was I to tell him another way?' he writes. 'What is blamable here? This is being alive.'
His son was four years old the day that Mr Zalkow, carrying him home from daycare, worked up the courage to take him dress-shopping after he had expressed his interest in girls' clothes for months.
At the Goodwill store, 'he pulled me to the dress aisle like he had been shopping there a thousand times before,' writes the author.
'He picked two pink dresses with flowers on them, one skimpy dress that seemed inappropriate even for a girl, and a white one that seemed only fit for a wedding. "Dada," he said as he handed the white one to me. "I love this one the most."'

“Just about every little boy tried on his moms high heals and hat. Mother or father usually tells him that little boys can do this for Halloween or for a theatre production but otherwise it’s not okay” -——there fixed it...
Hey even I think there is a time and place for everything.
Take the children away from these lunatic “parents”.
My wife, who was stunned but didn't skip a beat, retorted that "He is a boy."
No normal 4-year-old obsesses with clothes, of ANY kind. This kid needs help, not enabling.
Yeah, a bowel movement.
'Who the hell was I to tell him another way?' he writes....But ultimately he came to realize that the most important thing was the boy's happiness
I guess if he wants to eat nothing but candy and ice cream every meal, stay up till 1:00 AM each night, play in the street, etc., that would all be peachy keen, so long as he's happy?
Seems so obvious to the sane amongst us.
My nephew liked to wear his sisters silk panties when he was five. My brother said to him it wasn’t a good idea and that was it. He grew out of it and is a normal 16 year old.
I wish Archbishop Dolan would refrain from commenting on news articles.
Doesn't he mean why he finally bought his son a dress? Unless the then-four-year-old had a job or his own source of income.
This "man" is one sick person. He deserves to have his son taken away way more than many other parents, like say those ones that named their son Adolf or whatever, that do.
Does Mom want a girl but not a second child, so she subtly encourages feminine behavior instead of a healthier outlet?
Are the parents encouraging gender neutral behavior in the name of political correctness? And then they accidentally encouraged the female behavior?
Is he being groomed for this by man-hating lesbians and/or feminists?
The two buddies were getting ready for bed in the hunting shack, and the one guy noticed the other had thong underwear on!
“Earl! What the heck!!?? Since when did you start wearing lady’s underwear!!???”
“Ever since my wife found a pair in my truck’s glove box.”
Child abuse
“Presumably you are his FATHER, moron.”
Of course he is. Sure.

Writer, shame-ridden schmo, maker of lowbrow videos on creativity. Half-assed podcaster. My novel is reluctantly available.
I’ve worn a dress before....for a Halloween party. The kids saw me.
Which is why my son will never do it.
A perfectly legitimate use!
Not much of one.

One important parenting test is how you handle your 5-yr-old boy telling others on the plane how his penis tickles when there is turbulence.
