Last year, my old Windows Vista machine became slower and slower. I decided I needed a new computer, but one look at the Windows 8 format turned me off. My wife was being treated for leukemia in Birmingham, Al, so I went to the Apple store there and bought a MacBook Pro. I paid about sixteen hundred dollars for it. My wife passed away last May so I haven't been able to use the machine much, but I have decided it is not for me. The main thing is that it was a complete hassle to try to install a CAC card reader so I could log in to my government email. I was never able to do that.
I finally gave up and bout a laptop with windows 7 and had no problem with my CAC card reader. I don't use the MacBook anymore and would like to sell it.
Here are some questions I have.
Where will I find a description of what it is and what it has? I thought I had read instructions on how to erase all my personal data but I don't know if it worked. There are (besides the Apple icon) three other icons on it. One has just my first name. Another has my first and last name and the last one says, "Guest User."
How do I remove the ones with my name? Does anyone have any idea what price I should put on it?
Been a while since I had to do this, but if I remember correctly, if you click the Apple menu in the top left corner, there is an option called “System Information” or something similar, which provides all the technical specs for the system (processor type and speed, memory, etc.).
I no very little about mac ,but can’t you just do fresh install like it was when you bought it ?
Just type your question into your search engine. All that info should be online.
go to a mall ‘genius bar’ at the apple store
Apple ping
The nearest Apple store is in Birmingham which is four hours away.
Under “Apple” in left upper corner
About this Mac
Click more info
Overview - displays- storage- memory
Should just about do it
How much do you want for it?
Figure out your model number (search google about this mac) then you can see what they’re selling for on eBay as that’s a good rule of thumb.
I just sold a Mac Book Air for $480 not counting shipping. It was 3 years old.
Since the computer hasn't been used in a while, I'm sure there are software updates available that the computer will install. The software update is located in the Apple Menu icon as well...just below "About this Mac."
If you aren't familiar with the laptop, and don't feel comfortable making the changes, you could take it to an Apple store, or a place that works on Apple computers. They would be able to clean the computer (reformat) it for you.
Are you sure you don't have AppleCare (tech support/warranty) on the MacBook Pro? If you do, and it is still in effect, you can call customer support for help.
I run a couple of MAC’s. You need to reinstall the OS on it. That’s the only way to be sure it’s clean.
I never near use my real name I use an alias on all my computers
Let me get my son. He does this for PeachMac (authorized Apple reseller) Give me a minute or two
Since the Apple store is four hours away, there may be certified Apple techs who work at other computer repair shops. Make sure they are Apple certified. The shop I use does work on both PC and Apple computers. Check you yellow pages.
Upper left corner ;;click on the black apple;
choose "About this Mac".
then choose "more info
"
I don’t know. How much do they depreciate?
Then someone knows how.Do you have authorization to install a CAC reader on personal computer ?
He said you should google this stuff, but here ya go....
Get the specs, as you’ve been told here. You’ll need the Mac OS10 DVD that came with the box. If you have it, insert it into your drive and restart. Once you restart, when you hear the chime, hold down the option key. Keep it help down. It will give you the option of booting into the DVD, do that.
oh heck, just Google this.
