A cat came to her best friend's rescue Tuesday when the young boy was attacked in his driveway in Southwest Bakersfield.

The surveillance video shows the boy playing on his bicycle when a dog sneaks up behind him and grabs his leg.

The family's cat, named Tara, rushes the attacking dog and chased it away.

The boy's mother, Eric Triantafilo, told 23ABC the boy needed a few stitches, but he is doing fine this morning.

Enough speed and sharp objects to make one a flying, screeching ball of knives and pain.

I’m a little puzzled as to why the mother led the way, presumably into the house, expecting the injured boy to follow her. The boy was still on the ground and wrapped up in his bicycle. Why did she leave his side at all?

Maybe to get car-keys to take the boy to medical care.

She went around the other side of the car to chase the dog away and got bit herself.

Yes, the dog was returning. She went after it and she got bit, too.

That's what I thought she was doing. She went after the dog, the cat went with her and the boy got on his feet and followed right behind. I'm impressed with all three of them. Especially after seeing the little guy's injuries. Tight family unit!

Things worked out reasonably well, although the mother might not have been bitten if she had stayed with the child.

Dogs are pack animals. Things could have worked out badly if the mother left the child to confront dog #1, and dog #2 then attacked an already injured kid.

Good thing a cop didn’t show up or there would be two shot animals and a body slammed biker........

I'm glad you posted that slow moving picture because I waited forever for the video on the posted site to play........and it never did.

As a side note, had that dog belonged to my dad, he would have turned over the dead body of the dog to whatever agency it is that checks for rabies.........

He would never have owned a free biting dog............

If house cats weighed another 35 pounds, that dog would have looked like blood salad.

I like your tag line about "No man left behind".

The first aid I learned was, "Stop the bleeding. Clear the airway. Treat or prevent shock. Protect the wound."

I don't recall learning, "chase the dog and get bitten".

Would you really have just assumed that the boy didn't have an artery ripped open and didn't require immediate medical attention?

Like the cat's attitude, kicked the dog's a$$ and still wanted some more of him.

She checked him so I don't think she made any such assumption. Before first aid is applied the threat has to be dealt with. If you don't do that then everyone is left behind and there's no one left for first aid or rescue.

The fact that the kid jumped to his feet and without hesitation shows that he wasn't seriously injured and was ready to join battle with mom and kitty. Tight family unit! No wimps or "what iffers."

You can see on the video as the boy gets up that he is still entangled in his bicycle.

I can see that he stepped right out of it, planted his feet firmly on the ground and without hesitation followed mom and kitty.

It isn’t the size of the cat in the fight that matters, but the size of the fight in the cat. More to the point, it’s what the individual cat thinks is worth fighting for and to what degree.

If a cat decides you are a real threat that needs to be fought to the death, look out. ‘Housecats’ have been known to take down humans and occasionally kill them.

Angry cats have been referred to as ‘the furry buzzsaw’ by many, many commentators. Their combat tactics are completely different than their hunting tactics - a fighting cat will typically try to trip or knock over a larger opponent, then blind it by strikes to the eyes, *then* go to rip out the major blood vessels around the neck.

Yeah, little Fluffy snoozing on the couch is not to be underestimated. The cat is a ridiculously efficient killing machine if pressed.

If house cats weighed another 35 pounds, we wouldn’t keep them as pets!
