I’m a little puzzled as to why the mother led the way, presumably into the house, expecting the injured boy to follow her. The boy was still on the ground and wrapped up in his bicycle. Why did she leave his side at all? Maybe to get car-keys to take the boy to medical care.

She went around the other side of the car to chase the dog away and got bit herself.
