The band was introduced by Stipe, who delivered an eloquent speech that addressed the power and historical importance of the band as part of a counterculture that somehow became mainstream. "Nirvana tapped into a voice that was yearning to be heard," he said. "In the '80s and early '90s, the idea of a hopeful, democratic country had practically been dismantled by Iran Contra, by AIDS, by the Reagan, Bush Sr. administrations. With their music and their attitudes, Nirvana blasted through all that with crystalline, nuclear rage and fury. Nirvana were kicking against the system to show a sweet and beautiful, but fed-up fury coupled with howling vulnerability. They spoke truth, and a lot of people listened. They were singular and loud and melodic and deeply original. And that voice
That voice. Kurt, we miss you."

Why should they be upset? Those ‘issues’ were simply Republican witch hunts! There is nothing to the ridiculous lies perpetuated by heartless conservatives!
Mine too
Yes, I loved Alice in Chains (well the rock band, anyhow). There were others.
I saw them open for Van Halen a couple of times. It was an interesting variation in technique.
AIC was great...and Jerry Cantrell doesn’t come across as a liberal, in fact, I think he’s good pals with Ted Nugent.
So disgunstingly liberal that they sent Paul Broun to Congress.
ping for later
Michael Stipe is a perverted homosexual who, at his best, looks like a diseased refugee. He is obviously oppressed by Satanic evil. When he says something, you can make up your mind that the opposite is true.
If there is one place I get my political wisdom it’s from the R&R Hall of Fame.
Rock Stars - Is there anything they don’t know?
Unfortunately listening to a lot of them today, many don’t know how to sing or play instruments.
So there’s that ;)
Not as much as movie stars.
Ripoff artists. “Smells like team spirit” is a riff from Boston’s “More than a feeling” transposed to a minor key and thrown together with the rhythm line from BOC’s “Godzilla”. Google “Smells like a feeling”. Meh. Dirge music played by junkies.
“The RnR hall of fame is just one more award hijacked by the left to promote leftist agendas...”
Naw. It was never hijacked.
It was created for that purpose from the get-go.
The only REM rated stuff I enjoyed was the blues bum they did with Warren Zevon as his backing band. Other than that, thay are painful to listen to. Dave Grohl is on helluva musician. I have nothing but respect for his work, but don’t know his politics. I never did like Nirvana.
That's what I said the first time I heard a Morrissey song....but he hasn't gone through with it.....yet.
Good God, it was a counterrevolution against corporate rock and hair bands.
Motorhead, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, ZZTop. That's real rock.
