Most of us pay some attention to the weather forecast. If it says it will rain in your area tomorrow, it probably will. But if it says the same for a month, let alone a year, later, it is much less likely to be right. There are too many imponderables.
The theory of global warming is a gigantic weather forecast for a century or more. However interesting the scientific inquiries involved, therefore, it can have almost no value as a prediction. Yet it is as a prediction that global warming (or, as we are now ordered to call it in the face of a stubbornly parky 21st century, global weirding) has captured the political and bureaucratic elites. All the action plans, taxes, green levies, protocols and carbon-emitting flights to massive summit meetings, after all, are not because of what its supporters call The Science. Proper science studies what is which is, in principle, knowable and is consequently very cautious about the future which isnt. No, they are the result of a belief that something big and bad is going to hit us one of these days.
Some of the utterances of the warmists are preposterously specific. In March 2009, the Prince of Wales declared that the world had only 100 months to avert irretrievable climate and ecosystem collapse. How could he possibly calculate such a thing? Similarly, in his 2006 report on the economic consequences of climate change, Sir Nicholas Stern wrote that, If we dont act, the overall costs and risks of climate change will be equivalent to losing at least five per cent of global GDP each year, now and forever. To the extent that this sentence means anything, it is clearly wrong

I suspect that global warming cultists are planting fake TIME covers on the web in order to discredit all TIME covers from the 1970s warning us of global cooling. So we should be careful to distinguish the real from the fake.
The two covers posted here in reply #4 are genuine.
I also remember the late 1970s when we had some brutal winters and everybody was yakking about the coming Ice Age.
Back then, I think eggs and butter were considered bad for you also. People were using egg-beaters and margarine instead. Truly nasty stuff but people back then thought they were doing the healthy thing!
The original article says “Believers.” It’s basically a book review for a new work that traces various political and social threads from the 19th and 20th Centuries that came together in the alarmist movement. Sounds like a good read.
I will bet that 97% of the scientists hired by the tobacco companies in the 50’s & 60’s declared that smoking didn’t cause cancer.
Recall that in the West, those winters were major droughts (76-77. and to a less extent 77-78, mainly in California).
The "extremes" that are causing the hysteria have all been seen before when there were 80 million fewer people in the U.S.
Translation: people got nuttin' to do wid it, as Archie Bunker might say
OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls the climates of all its planets.
3. The earth is one of the suns planets.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

How can anyone forget the ever increasing number of super hurricanes.
Wait...weren’t so supposed to be here by now?
A recent Saturday forecast by Joe Bastardi talked about the coming hurricane season - nothing spectacular BUT he said that the signs pointed to a repeat of the 1950's where storms went up the east coast. Be prepared for a repeat of the past, but all blamed on mankind's current release of CO2. View the video and see that the present is merely repeating the past as far as weather is concerned.
