Archaeologists excavating in the town of Odense, Denmark, the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, unearthed some medieval barrels that were being used in the towns old toilet area.
"The excavation is characterized by great conditions for preservation and is located on a medieval site that has been found to contain brick houses, half-timbered houses and stables, archaeologist Maria Elisabeth Lauridsen told Discovery News. "We are talking about 700-year-old latrines. And yes, they still smell bad.

Slow News Weekend?
Similar to our local rag’s headline yesterday. “Trash Specialist interviewed Re: MAL370”.
Had to read the lengthy article (too funny) where the “specialist” basically tells us he has traveled the 7 seas and could have told them they’d find trash.

Fifty years ago I read a history book on ROME in which a public outhouse was excavated. It still stunk, and drew flied something terrible. Not bad for a 2000 year old outhouse.

I watched a show about Pompeii and they showed garbage bag after bag of what they found where poop had been collected under the living areas before the volcano erupted. They could tell what they ate and that there was no difference between the wealthy and poor diets.

I’d be worried about lingering plague organisms and old forms of viruses that may differ just enough from modern vaccines to be catchable.

Let’s hope that the stink from her and her husband won’t still be on America 400 years from now.

Roll Out The Barrel
the perfect theme song for the next DNC convention
Roll out the barrel, we’ll have a barrel of fun
Roll out the barrel, we’ve got the blues on the run
Zing boom tararrel, sing out a song of good cheer
Now’s the time to roll the barrel, cause the gang’s all here
