High heels are, apparently, de rigueur for men.
To the possible chagrin of some more traditional males, those with a fashionable eye and an eccentric sensibility are taking the women's power dressing weapon of choice and making it their own.

Sorry, you're wrong. I say that as a woman who has worn heels for all of my adult life, and as one whose friends and acquaintances have done the same. Height doesn't enter the equation.
There's nothing "inadequate" about the height of females when compared to men. Most women enjoy looking up to tall men. I include myself in that. I'm 5'5", and my husband is 6'2".

As somebody earlier pointed out, high heels on shoes were originally designed for men. In the Middle Ages, high heeled shoes were status symbols for men as the wearing of such non functional foot-ware identified you as a member of the ruling class. Unlike men of lower ranks, you did not have to perform any kind of labor (which was considered demeaning), and wearing those type of shoes basically announced to the world that you were above all that.
Over time, women adopted the high heel shoe and for the same reasons. They wanted to announce to the world that they were of the nobility and thus did not have to perform any labor - as they had servants or slaves for that. In Oriental culture, they would bind women's feet from a young age - in a rather grotesque manner - basically crippling them. Yet they didn't mind as it assured them a life of leisure and solidified their standing in the higher classes.
Men gradually stopped wearing the high heel but it still exists today in modified form - mostly with respect to the cowboy boot and for formal wear (male pumps).
Not sure how high heels are being associated with homosexual culture in this thread. Most homosexual men dress as most other men do and when they do "dress up", it's usually in a disgusting manner with bondage-suggesting leather and chains, etc. The photo in reply #2 is obviously an exception to that rule but seriously, how much of that do you see outside of fashion shows and overly-trendy NYC or LA nightclubs? It's not exactly a look that's sweeping the nation, I'll tell you that.
Women look great in high heels and complements the feminine form very nicely. Men tend to look stupid in them unless it's something along the lines of a cowboy boot. However, real men wear whatever they want and don't give a crap what others have to say about it.
