Can anyone recommend a good dental discount plan? And are there any plans out there that should be avoided?
Clinics at several places across the border are excellent, and the costs are about 50 percent (or slightly less) than what I get quoted just south of Dallas.
Example: I needed two root canals and crowns. Called my local dentist for a quote. It came back $3,850. The cost at the clinic I went to in Juarez did the work in 3 days (2 nights in a hotel) for $1600. With hotel and air fare I was still 50 percent below the local cost.
I visited again for another root canal and position of two titanium posts where teeth were missing. I return the middle of May (2 nights) for impressions, creation of the porcelein dental implant tops and the crown, and then home.
Again, the cost is less than half what two dental implants alone would cost me here.
The clinic sends a van either to the airport or to your hotel and ferries you to the clinic, then back across the border to whatever destination you choose -- hotel, or airport.
The clinic has about nine dentists on staff, they speak English, and all the latest technological doodads are deployed (e.g. low-power digital xrays).
The plan below is supposed to eliminate over 90% of periodontal insults in 7 to 9 days. It also whitens teeth very well, and gently.
DMSO is a liquid sold online and in vitamin stores, for about $10-15 per pint (I think). The extra-strength 35% peroxide appears to be about $24 per quart, which will last many years.
DMSO/Peroxide treatment for Periodontal infection Repeat the following three times daily (after meals, is preferable):
1. BRUSH teeth gently with SOFT toothbrush for 15 seconds (light bleeding is OK).
2. RINSE the mouth with clean tap or distilled water.
3. SWISH with H202 and DMSO● Use a mixture of:4. RINSE mouth with clear water for about 5 seconds
○ 8 parts regular H202 (3.5% common drugstore variety)
○ 1 part extra-strength H202 (35%)
○ 1 part DMSO (full strength of the purest available form, usually 99.9% pure)
● Swish about one tablespoon in the mouth for approximately 30 seconds--or until the amount of foam-forming is too great--then spit the entire solution out.
5. SWISH with H202 and DMSO● Same mix as before. Again, swish 1 tbsp for 30 seconds and spit it out.6. Wait 5 minutes, then RINSE mouth with clear water for about 5 seconds
Also, vitamin K2 is said to heal cavities.
My periodontist has had me rinsing with 1 teaspoon bleach in a cup of water every night for about 2 years now. Cleanings are a breeze.
DO NOT SWALLOW!!!!!
If you think you *need* a dental plan....start w/ your dentist [assuming you have one you can trust] ...ask what plans s/he accepts.
My out-of-pocket dental plan is like having *pet insurance*...they only pay a portion of that the dentist charges. So, do your homework. Read the fine print.
Good luck.

Here in Oklahoma, you just pick up a form (any time you want to) and fill out the required information. After that, they just notify you, if you qualify. And it’s on a financial basis for qualification. So ... no lines for this one. I would imagine that not everyone who applies is accepted. And then I would guess you’re scheduled for whenever they have the next opening.
I don’t know all the particulars as I’ve never done that myself,
if you have a Medical University in your area..look for a dental clinic...
I go to the Dental Clinic at UPMC (Pittsburgh,PA.) and they are great and very reasonably priced, in fact I’ve had the best dental care ever in my 70+ years. and they even give you an interest FREE LOAN that is reasonable and affordable also.
I’ve had great care, no rush and very kind thoughtful ‘future Dentist’s..had three gum surgeries that were all successful and reasonable, compared to dentist in the area..in fact I had a dentist who refused me treatment because I did not have insurance..
and all the student’s work is supervised and checked by licensed Dentists
My dentist is one of the founders of this program.....he and many, many of his brethren give up lucrative chair time in their own practices to participate b/c the need is so great. Eventually, perhaps they will have to go to an appointment-type set-up as you demonstrate.
He said it is a grueling few non-stop days on your feet constantly....and many of the cases are quite desperate.
I’m glad they do this for our *own* and not some 3rd-world country.
"No", said the older, wiser bull. "Let's walk down this hill and f*** all of them cows".
You describe, right there, the model for true health care reform. Screw the whole insurance racket... make the actual care competitive in an open market and everyone wins.
Yes when I was 21 I had a job that provided dental insurance and I was too naive at the time to realize what this guy was doing to me. I would walk in and he would tell me I had 13 cavities and would proceed to drill all 13 teeth, I mean right down to the root- he would give them all fake root canals over a number of months. And he’s still in business if you can believe it: Dr. Allan Dampf Levittown New York, he regularly gives himself great reviews on the internet and then I warn people to stay away from him at all costs and right after that my review is deleted. I tried to sue him a number of times but I waited too late. But wow, if I ever met him in the street I would probably end up in jail. Dr. Freakin Mengele of the dentist world is what he is. The agony I later went through because of that guy is indescribable. 20 years later all the “root canals” he did started falling apart, basically because he drilled out all the interiors of my teeth until they were basically eggshells, so years later when all the stuff he filled it with disintegrated, so did the tooth where I would find myself walking around with a bunch of nerves exposed in my jaw. He made damn sure about that with his “root canals” to leave the nerves intact.
Ha ha look at this, someone talking about the same thing I am:
Patient Review 1 Dr. Allan Dampf - General Dentist Levittown NY.
He is expensive and charges patients accordingly...if he knows you have $, be prepared to reach deep into your pocket. He did a root canal and crown on my wisdom tooth, told me I had cavities when I did not. His office filled my daughters baby tooth. It cost us $250 to fill it and one week later had to have it pulled because there was an infection. Would not recommend him, he lacks honesty and is not ethical. He is all about money.
My heart goes out to you after reading your post.
Greedy SOB! He basically ruined your teeth.
When we moved to Vancouver, Washington, my first dentist
was something like you describe. On my first visit, he found lot of work in my mouth. I switched dentists immediately since I was having no issues with my teeth. I was there just to have a routine teeth cleaning. I was very lucky to stumble onto my present dentist, who has been a huge asset to my teeth and my pocketbook.
Best luck going forward!
Good thing you switched, once those teeth are purposely damaged you will never get them back. It just gets worse and worse until your only options are to have the tooth pulled or have a post and cap put on which can cost thousands which I do not have. And you know what was really sinister about this guy Dr. Dampf? He use to hire these incredibly gorgeous women as his “dental assistants” who would dress provocatively, so there I am a 21 year old guy at the height of my hormones leaning back in a dentists chair with her chest basically in my face while this guy is destroying my teeth, just a real evil sonofabitch. I don’t know why I didn’t put two and two together back then, I remember one really bad time he was drilling one of my molars for what seemed forever until he hit the nerve and it felt like I got hit in the jaw with a sledgehammer, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with the tooth. And STILL I went back. Just a real stupid kid.
