The popular counter-cultural event in the Nevada Desert burned through its 38,000 tickets in 44 minutes this week, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.
The $380 tickets went on sale on Wednesday with little issue, the newspaper reported. They are being relisted online at places like StubHub for up to $1,545.
If you missed the Burning boat, fear not: Another 1,000 tickets will go onsale on Aug. 6.
A record-breaking 68,000 people went to the playa last year.

$18mm for charging people to attend a party in the desert where they have to bring or buy all their own amenities, transportation, shelter and entertainment.
The organizers are geniuses.

In their defense, they do spend a lot of money on infrastructure beforehand and cleanup after, but I'm sure they still laugh all the way to the bank. The thing is, I was talking with some people about Burning Man and they said "Oh, we'll never get a ticket, besides it's too expensive." So I saud, "Let's just do our own version of Burning Man. We can even do it in the same place - it's just BLM-controlled land in the desert - anyone can go there. We do it the month before or so." But nobody wants to do that, because most people are fat, lazy sheep who want everything done for them, and besides, it's a status thing among the left-wing yuppie hipsters to say they went to the "real" Burning Man.

Actually, they have an elaborate scheme to thwart scalping. Your ticket is issued in your name (presumably with a unique ticket ID no.), based on your credit card name, and, presumably, you have to show ID when you enter that matches. You can only buy two tickets. If you want to resell them, you have to sell them back to Burning Man, which then logs it into their database, and resells it online before the event. Or something like that.

Yes. They. Are.

Flew out of Reno last year when they were leaving. The airlines wrap their luggage in plastic to keep the residue from getting on everybody else’s stuff.

I wonder what the carbon footprint of Burning Man is? Do these liberals who go there buy their carbon offsets so they don’t feel guilty???
To: fr_freak
so, you have to show ID to go to Burning Man, but don’t need ID to vote in places controlled by liberals......................

$18mm for charging people to attend a party in the desert where they have to bring or buy all their own amenities, transportation, shelter and entertainment. One of their guiding principles is gifting, so they prohibit commerce at the venue. Yet they charge $380 per ticket. I'd love to hear the promoters reconcile those two facts.

For those of you who don’t understand;
When they say “Playa” they mean desert sand.
Though the literal translation of “Playa” means “Beach”.
