Mad Men fans know women took a lot of sexist hits in the past when it came to advertising. Heres a look at some of those cringe-worthy classics from the automobile world, along with some others that might make you question whether the good old days were always so good.

Chrysler didn’t require the bail-out because of poor advertising, but because of a poor product.
True, the Aspen/Volares that replaced the Dart/Valiant have the dubious distinction of being among the most recalled cars in history. Even today, any of them still around in mint condition are considered nothing more than used cars.
I didn’t see The National Lampoon VW ad.
You’re too quick!
People who get bothered by those ads don’t have enough to do.
I have a conservative Christian friend who would be bugged by them, though. Just the other day she went off on a rant, saying she is a “conservative feminist” and she is sick of sexism from men. Said she has a problem with the Bible’s language about women, who can do whatever a man can do.
Outstanding!
The wussification of America continues.....
Sooner or later we men need to put our foot down and stop this nonsense.
Go out, find a Lib and kick his a$$.
“The beer that made Milwaukee famous”
Just to take that first ad, being a redcap was a respectable job, with decent pay. And lots of blacks came north to the cities to get that kind of job.
Do they think the LBJ approach to blacks is better? Instead of encouraging them to work for a living, give them free lunches if they promise to vote for you forever.
And pay them extra if they agree to break up their marriages and bring up their kids as hip-hopping drug dealers, muggers, and gangsters.
Oh, and of course hate whitey rather than work with him.
"Let your women keep silence in the churches; for it is not permitted unto them to speak, but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home; for it is a shame for women to speak in the church." 1 Corinthians 14: 34-37
That should send your friend into the stratosphere for a bit. :-)
That one jumped out at me too. I don’t think duck hunting is even politically incorrect.
Yeah, I bought a ‘76 Volare. If I recall correctly, I had six or seven recalls in a little over two years. Other than these “minor” (not really) headaches, I liked the car. I still have a “new” or never used AM radio from that car.
I guess you know that “Sally sits on Schlitz all day.”
LOL
I actually brought those into our conversation, along with a couple of other verses. Her reaction was to tell me that, well, “letting” my husband be head of the house is all right for me, but she and her husband love and respect each other too much.
Yes, she went there. She also told me she could never respond to her husband as “lord and master.” I think she really believes that’s what I do.
(I told my husband that part, and he said, “Well, any time you want to start would be appropriate.”) LOL
