...cracked Peyton Manning's hand signal code during the Super Bowl so they were able to predict every play
The Seattle Seahawks have revealed that a good part of their defensive strategy at the Super Bowl came from the fact that they were able to decode Peyton Manning's hand signals on the field. Controversial corner back Richard Sherman said that he and his fellow defenders cracked the code that the Denver Broncos quarterback was using, meaning that they knew exactly what to expect for each play. 'We knew what route concepts they liked on different downs, so we jumped all the routes. Then we figured out the hand signals for a few of the route audibles in the first half,' he said.

So Sherman says they cracked the code rather than totally dominated them? If I was a team mate I don’t think I would like this dude.
You can't spell National Security Agency without the letters in Seattle.
Manning’s codes probably weren’t too difficult to figure out. I recall when they played Dallas earlier this year, every time he yelled an animal name like, “jaguar” or “cheetah” it switched to a run play. It’s brute force, not rocket science.
If Peyton sez => the play is:
Omaha => Snap into the endzone
Omaha => Post Pattern
Omaha => Fly pattern
Omaha => Interception to Linebacker
Omaha => Center Screen to halfback
Omaha => Tight end screen
Omaha => Run off tackle
Omaha => Reverse
Omaha => End around
See a pattern?
Payton is the last of his breed. It’s the end of the pocket QB. Defense coordinators have figured them out. Payton and Eli are finished. The era of the pass and run QB begins.
“Not know much about football - is that allowed?”
Oh, come on. It’s not like counting cards in Vegas.
I hope Manning comes out and says “I don’t use hand signals”.
I figured out the Seahawks’ hand signals after the very first play of the game and after the very first play of the 2nd half — applause.
He will be like Farve. He will retire and then try to make a comeback a couple of times.
Sherman needs to have a full time monitor to authorize him opening his mouth. How can he think anything good will come from such a statement? Basically he is taking credit from his own defensive team mates play and saying that other skills or methods allowed them to run over the offense.
What a fool.
I take back calling him a thug. He’s a cracker!
I don’t think so.
Manning will be in huge demand either as coach (college or pro), college AD, or NFL gm.
Very similar to Harbaugh.
Good QB will always have to be effective from the pocket. Running adds a dimension to success but in the end if a guy can’t master the 3, 5, 7 trees they won’t be an effective QB. Look at RG3, he lacks the pure pocket skills and with his knee in bad shape he was worthless. Meanwhile look at Luck who can run, but he focuses on passing first. Same with Wilson. And there’s still Rodgers and Brees and River, pocket guys are no more a dieing breed now than they were in 1983 when Elway came into the league and people predicted scramblers were going to take over.
Yes...it’s allowed and every team and player tries to read the signals from grade school on. It’s part of the game to do this on the field.
I think the physics of the NFL is actually working against scramblers due to the injury factor. Bigger faster stronger defenders all the time.
Good for Sherman! He continues to be one of the best men on the field!
GO HAWKS!
And bigger paychecks. Who really wants to put the most expensive guy on the team into a position where you know he’ll get hit. Which is why smart running QB get close to the sideline before crossing the LOS, giving them maximum ability to throw the ball away and then a quick escape route when they can no longer throw.
ROTFL!
