Part James Brown, part Michael Jackson. It was a great performance.
For those who missed it, here’s his full 14 minute halftime show performance at the Superbowl:

The performance wore its sources well, doubling as a history lesson in song.
The songs Mars offered represented a virtual pop nexus of the last 40 years, touching on bouncy ‘60s Motown (Reminding me of the Temptations), fun ‘70s disco funk, slick ‘80s pop and a hint of modern hip-hop-flash. At one point, he even referenced James Brown’s fast-footed dance moves.
Bruno Mars has grown on me, and a lot of that is because he draws on classic soul and R&B.
I concur with the authors opinion in regard to the Red Hot Chili Poopers.
He did great. They could’ve done without the other group that showed up on stage though.
Yep, so "wholesome" his CD has a Parental Advisory sticker on it.
I’ve become a Bruno Mars fan over time. He is a heck of a performer. His early songs were hokey, but his newer stuff is pretty good.
He sucked!
The clean cuts lost points, IMO.
IMHO, Bruno Mars and his backups did a wonderful job. They had a lot of energy and to be honest.. he sounded good. Gosh, remember a few years back that band with Fergie in it? Horrible!! I enjoyed the halftime performance... the game? Not so much.
How did the opera singer do on the Anthem?
Last night’s was the first SB I’ve turned on in a decade. Left the room for a bit at the start of the half-time show, but when I returned, Mars was on and it was a total delight to stay on the channel to watch him, rather than switch to TWC.
I’ve seen clips of the Rolling Stone/Paul McCartney/Beyonce halftime performances. Blah! This young man entertained in a way that emphasized his (and his group’s) actual God-given talent instead of blue smoke and mirrors.
This was great - finally a half-time show the whole family could watch.
And I heard through the family grapevine that my 93 yr old Granny stayed up past her bedtime just to watch the RHCP.
Awesomeness.
We thoughtit was a refreshing change and with no wardrobe malfunctions. :-)
I don’t get it. I walked in the room, Bruno Mars half time show was on, I thought it was just awful.
I see this line of guys singing with no talent and dancing like the boy bands of the 80s, reminded me of n sync.
I thought it was awful. Then I see everyone saying how great it was.
I’m used to a higher talent level. I listen to Siriusly Sinatra all the time...these guys...no.
I actually like Bruno Mars. He fills the void left by Michael Jackson (without all of the craziness). I like his Police homage song, Locked out of Heaven.
Chili Peppers woke the place up. Mars was good, but it was going on too long and starting to get Vegasy. Needed some balls at that point, and the Chili Peppers provided.
We saw Bruno Mars “LIVE” at the New York State Fair. We had great seats for this show. It was outside and seating was metal benches inside what looked like a corral or cow pen. The ambiance was cow manure and throngs cackling.
Bruno Mars came out and gave a great performance to the screams of teeny boppers who wouldn’t know real talent while they were witnessing it.
He gave it his all as if he were performing for 100,000,000 sophisticated people. It was fantastic! He is the REAL deal. No one, who had seen him live, would have any doubts about his being selected for the Superbowl.
Bruno Mars is REAL talent, something rare in today’s pop music.
