The Game That Wasn't
Me | Feb. 3, 2014 | RetSignman

Peyton went into that game with a wound, it wasn't a physical wound but one his own team mates delivered by making him look like a bully and insufferable task master.

They claimed he would give them 'pop quizes' on what to look for in a game, they said they were afraid of him, they said they would try to avoid him and he would interject himself in every aspect of the game.

Hey, if you didn`t see Seattle`s WR` s running thru their secondary like practice dummies then no one saw it.

I also saw the following (not the fault of the defense):

Opening play safety..there's 2 points.

Manning throws pick 6...there's 9.

Kickoff return for touchdown...there's 16.

So now we're down to 27 points allowed by the defense. However, I know there was at least one fumble and another Manning pick that lead to field position and points for Seattle. Just can't remember how those subsequent drives transpired.

So let's just call it an even 20 points that can be directly blamed on the defense...less than half the total points allowed.

Denver sucked equally on ALL sides of the ball.

Sherman is also correct about Manning, he throws ducks.

I would have told him he was crazy a week ago....I was wrong. There were definitely some ducks put up yesterday.

I remember when Peyton lost to Drew Brees in a Super Bowl and wasn’t man enough to shake his hand after.
++++++

“We had a chance to possess the ball,” Manning said of that stretch. “It’s our job to score.”

Manning didn’t apologize for not sticking around to congratulate Saints players but did offer an explanation for the hasty exit.

“I certainly know how it was three years ago when we won,” Manning said. “There’s not much consolation for the guys who didn’t win. There’s the stage being set up and the celebration. It’s time for the Saints to celebrate. It’s their field.

“I certainly congratulate all their players and the Saints organization. I’ll speak to Drew and Sean. They deserve all the credit.”

“AFC in general is weak.”

Not necessarily. Neither of the AFC wild card games had a home team with a worse record than the away team.

Not buying it :D

If it’s me, I’m going to do what’s proper, and I really don’t care what anyone else thinks or says.

What are they gonna do, fire him for shaking brees’ hand?

I don’t think so.

He was pissed off is what he was.

I wonder if he did the same last night.

The Seahawks should have shut the Broncos OUT. THey had a lapse of concentration on Denver’s scoring drive. Had they clamped down hard, they would have had the only shutout in SB history. One thing to work on next season.

You can add this to your post. Manning was in heirs an contention in I believe his senior year at UT. The Vols came to play the University of Memphis and was abused like a yard dog. Peyton was made to have a horrible game. He thus became the only starting UT qb to lose to the U of M Tigers. In a Sports Illustrated article the following year, he was asked if there was any college game he’d like to have back. He said the Tigers game for sure. That probably more than likely cost him the Heisman.

I completely forgot about that game. I remember all the talk going in that the Heisman was Peyton’s to lose... he lost it alright. What a stinker of a game.

I remember it because I was there. Great night for Tiger fans. Peyton is the ONLY starting UT quarterback to have lost to the University of Memphis Tigers.......so far.

“He didn’t rush up and down his line hollering out what to look for and, personally, I don’t blame him...let THEM figure out what to do.”

Disagree. Manning was in the process of stepping up toward the center on the first play from scrimmage to deliver a line audible when the jittery Denver center snapped the ball over his head resulting in a safety.

This is a classic move by Manning that was repeated several times during the game even after the disaster on the first play.

That’s not what happened at all. Manning blew that play. Here’s what the center had to say:

“It was real loud. We were trying to go on the cadence. I thought I heard him. I didn’t. He was actually walking up to me because he had already said the cadence, and I snapped it.”

Manning had already given the cadence for the snap and the center snapped the ball at the proper cadence. Manning stepped up to make a last minute adjustment...

But it was loud... REAL LOUD. Most Super Bowls are simply not very loud as most attendees aren’t fans, the seats are sold to corporations and businesses. But when the NFL released tickets late in the week due to weak sales (because of the weather), Seahag fans swooped in and bought them up. They traveled very well.

Most Super Bowls are fairly quiet affairs, not this game, this was a Seattle home game, and John Fox being the genius that he is never thought to bring in loud speakers to simulate crowd noise because “we didn’t think it was going to be a factor.”

So extremely loud crowd drowns out Peyton as he’s trying to change the cadence, but too late, the center snaps on the cadence.

Ramirez stepped up and took responsibility, but the blame for that play is firmly on Peyton, he should have just stuck with the original call.

Obviously I can’t claim to know what Manning intended. It’s just that we’ve all seen him do it a thousand times. What else could it be?

Given that the Broncos were operating in the shadow of their own end zone I don’t doubt that noise was a factor. But heck, this is the Superbowl. 4 pre-season games, 16 regular season games and 2 prior playoff games and they have a missed center exchange (not involving a wet ball) in the biggest game of the year? But then it’s just these kinds of fluke plays that seem to define championship games.

Quizzing his teammates on certain situations?

Hmmm?

Sounds familiar.

"One: down to the road block, we've just begun; Two: the guards are through; Three: the Major's men are on a spree; Four: Major and Wladislaw go through the door; Five: Pinkley stays out in the drive; Six: the Major gives the rope a fix; Seven: Wladislaw throws the hook to heaven; Eight: Jiménez has got a date; Nine: the other guys go up the line; Ten: Sawyer and Gilpin are in the pen; Eleven: Posey guards points five and seven; Twelve: Wladislaw and the Major go down to delve; Thirteen: Franko goes up without being seen; Fourteen: Zero-hour, Jiménez cuts the cable, Franko cuts the phone; Fifteen: Franko goes in where the others have been; Sixteen: we all come out like it's Halloween." The group recites this constantly to drive it into their minds.

Lol, just a little problem with your analogy...in the Dirty Dozen, there are twelve men, in football only eleven men are allowed on the field.

I know picky picky. ;)
