Dash-cam video released Thursday shows a State Police officer running toward and alongside the car driven by Jeanette Anaya and firing multiple times into the Honda sedan as he screams expletives and for the occupants to get their hands up.
Anayas car did back into officer Oliver Wilsons cruiser, apparently narrowly missing Wilson himself, but the video shows that the Honda was moving away from Wilson as most of his 16 shots were fired.
Anaya, 39, was hit and killed by two of Wilsons shots, following a vehicle chase that started when Wilson tried to pull her over for a traffic stop after midnight on Nov. 7.
When the shooting took place, Wilson was outside his patrol car. He had used a bumping maneuver to force her car to stop on Camino Carlos Rey. All within just a few seconds, Wilson gets out of his car, Anaya backs into the cruiser, and Wilson starts shooting at Anayas Honda. A passenger in Anayas car, Jeremy Munoz, 34, was not injured.
Earlier this week, a Santa Fe County grand jury ruled that Wilson was justified in firing at Anaya and that he will face no criminal charges. Wilson testified he feared for his life when Anaya backed into his police car, according to District Attorney Angela Spence Pacheco.
But Tom Clark, attorney for Anayas parents, said Thursday that Anaya should have stopped during the car chase but that if Wilson wasnt wearing a police uniform, hed be facing a first-degree murder charge now.
Clark said he was shocked and dismayed after viewing the video.
I had no idea it was going to be as bad as it was, he said. I didnt think it would be so dramatic with the officer running alongside shooting point-blank into the car.

What is a concealing identity charge?
Except that, according to the excerpt, he was still the aggressor:
When the shooting took place, Wilson was outside his patrol car. He had used a bumping maneuver to force her car to stop on Camino Carlos Rey.
(I can't watch the vid right now, so I don't know how accurate the description is.)
The question is what are the NMSP Rules of Engagement
regarding Fleeing FelonsThis seems to be a management problem
or a legislative problem.
Sounds like she was arrested before and refused to give her name to officers. She did have a trace of cocaine in her system according to the tox screen performed by the medical examiner.
High speed chase. Tries to run over the officer. What was he supposed to do?
I say it was a good shooting.
ok what am i missing? she had the green light, he had the red. she turned right WITH the green light, and he immediately ran the red to give chase. what is the probable cause for the chase to begin with?
She had already tried to kill the cop. That’s good enough for me.
How is this different from the situation of the woman from Connecticut who was shot by the Capital police in Washington, D.C. a few months ago?
I almost got hit with one of those when I was a kid. I told a cop my name was Dave Smith. When they found out my real name was Paul I said “That’s how it’s spelled, but I pronounce it Dave.”
For some reason he didn’t like that answer, neither did mom and dad.
16 shots fired, a sig with a banana clip maybe??
to me this is a case of bad judment on both sides. both are responsible for her death. she should have realized her warrant wasn’t something worth doing something stupid and losing her life over, and the cop should have known her driving away wasn’t worth 16 rounds at near point-blank range.
It sure seems like they don't. If only they read this handy informational brochure…

As Chris Rock said in his hilarious video, ‘How not to get your a$$ kicked by the pOlice.” If you run, the cops are bringing an a$$ kicking with them. Or, in this case, after she backed into his car, narrowly missing him and pumping up his adrenalin even further, firearm discharge in your general direction.
No, I don't think the cop was right to do what he did, but mitigating circumstances as I understand them warrants him finding another job, but not prison time.
And I rarely find myself coming to the defense of cops. It's usually the opposite. And I am only defending up to a point for a simple reason: being a man, I know the heart of man. You take your life into your own hands when you attack one with deadly force and he has been given limited authority to do what most people wouldn't be allowed to do.
Yep, The car was moving away and the cop was just trying to kill her. He probably watches too many cop shows on TV.
A badge has turned into a license to murder.
every single person who runs is an equal threat and therefore deserving of being shot? we’re talking about subjective judgment here. they also have cars to go after speeders. do they arrest every single one because they’re speeding all the same?
Does a day go by nowadays without at least one cold-blooded murder by a cop?
and think how many decades we’ve had affirmative action programs in leo organizations and then wonder why this stuff happens at greater frequency now. women cops are far more likely to shoot you b/c they are smaller and weaker and ‘fear for their safety’ at a lower threshold than a male cop. i still look at the video of the female cop almost shooting the guy on the ground in handcuffs - accidental firing. or’the fbi dude who lectures the class about he’s the only one qualified to use a glock in the room and then proceeds to shoot himself in the foot. and then trying to appear like he’s still got any credibility.
Try to run me over and I’d shoot first ask questions later.
there are sooooooo many cop shows on tv. i think personally it’s affected how cops believe they can act. i think that’s the actual subconscious point of sooooooo many cop shows being on.
