I have twice now adopted what I call “miniature beagles” and one stereotype that is 100% correct, Beagles cannot be trusted off a leash! Well they can, but you better not take your eye off them because the nose knows, and when the nose picks up a scent they are off, and their ears go completely out of service! They make me laugh :)

A buddy of mine had a beagle (since departed) who I once saw steal a tri-trip right off the grill. With his owner watching.

Yep! Had one! If the bunny went around the tree 3x, so did the beagle. One March, it finally killed him as he followed a scent across the ice to where it was too thin, fell in and drowned. It was sad, because he was a good dog. But the nose overrules their brain.

We have a Beagle and he always has to be supervised. They do follow the nose and then a mile down the road they look up and they are lost. Our Alpha dog is a Chihuahua. Not a mean bone in her body but she is stand offish until she gets to know someone. She will eat the UPS guy. :-)
