Yep! Had one! If the bunny went around the tree 3x, so did the beagle. One March, it finally killed him as he followed a scent across the ice to where it was too thin, fell in and drowned. It was sad, because he was a good dog. But the nose overrules their brain.
Oh my gosh, terrible story but I can see how it could happen. Thanks for sharing as it reminds me to not feel bad when my little guy looks at me in shock and horror when I have to shut a door in his face to keep him in until we are hooked up—and even then, I am not always successful! I don’t know why, but I’m sure I will be back at shelter looking for another old one one day. Best as we can figure, the two I have had (one has passed) both ended up in shelter because they followed their nose and got lost somehow.
