Nothing Funny About Anchorman 2
The American Spectator ^ | 01/08/14 | James Bowman

uring the two very long hours of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, I think I chuckled three times. Meanwhile, all around me were cracking up. They, obviously, were more in tune with the general audience responsible for (at the time of writing) the $100 million in box office receipts earned by this sequel to the equally dreadful Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004). Not that I’m not used to being in the minority in my view of popular movies, but I can’t help asking myself why so many people think this one, which is by the same creative team of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay that produced the original, is funny when I do not. I don’t think it can be because I lack a sense of humor, or that it has atrophied with age, since I do laugh at quite a lot of things. Scott Foundas, the critic for Variety, likens the new Anchorman to “Network as directed by Mel Brooks, and starring Gene Wilder,” thus comparing it to some movies that I do find funny. Does he, then, think they are funny in the same way as Anchorman 2?

That probably caused a laugh big enough to set off a normal sprinkler these days

It is that film where the party is at actor James Franco’s house? We debated whether to go see that. So it was funny?

I agree... I don’t get his whole thing. why exactly is he funny? well... different tastes I guess.

Dana Carvey... that was funny.. I saw the 1st Anchorman, after being proded by friends, and I did not laugh once... zilch.. nada..

I think Steve Correl, on the other hand is incredibly funny.

I’ve always hated Will Farrell, not personally, just his body of works simply sucks crusty ass.

He’s never ever made me laugh. Never.

*yawn*

It is irreverent slap stick as well. Mel Brooks did not write this so it is not the same. It is in that kind of ball park. Kind of also like Borat for newscasters.

I saw it, it was stupid funny, it had my wife and I laughing so hard and though it was a long movie it felt like it was a short movie.

No redeeming value beyond making you laugh.

By the author's own admission, other people are finding it funny.

Yeah, but we live in Ideocracy now, where people find "Ow, My Balls" funny.

I went to see Will Ferrell's "The Candidate" a couple of years ago. I lasted about 9 minutes before walking out. It was vile and not the least bit humorous. As the author stated, all the people around me in the theater were laughing in hysterics as a voice mail played where every vile sexual thing imaginable was uttered to a family (with a children present) that had just said evening prayers.

I felt like a paratrooper who had parachuted behind enemy lines in that theater. So I left.

“... And there was a time in this country, a long time ago, when reading wasn’t just for fags and neither was writing. People wrote books and movies, movies that had stories so you cared whose ass it was and why it was farting, and I believe that time can come again!”

I don’t find him funny very often either. It’s like he’s never matured past Jr. high locker room humor.

I’ve never found Will Farrell TO BE funny. Odd and vulgar? Yes, but not funny. In fact, I’ve rarely found SNL funny since the early to mid-1980’s. It might be that I’ve grown out of teenage, scatalogical humour or, the show may have just gotten bad. Monty Python or Red Dwarf I find (sometimes) funny, but not SNL.

“This is the End” - I think that’s the movie you are talking about.

This is how I rate Farrell.

Very funny in small portions. Some of his movies grate on you after a while, but watching a random scene can be hilarious. This is how I feel about anchorman so why pay $8 - $10 bucks in the theater .

Some of his supporting roles have been priceless such as "The Producers".

Exception to seeing an entire Farrell movie..

Kicking and Screaming

The Other Guys

The Step Brothers

Will Ferrell is about as funny as a burn ward. A talentless, low-brow hack.

If those banal car commercials starring the Anchorman are any indication, the title is correct.
