I have searched since you posted and can’t find any evidence that mequite grows in the Piney Woods Region. I looked at many pictures to see what the look like, and don’t recall seeing any until west of Houston by some mileage. One site has a map and PWR was not included in the mesquite area. But what do I know, I’ve only been here 3 1/2 years. I would like to find some locally, though, for BBQ

That's why I thought Johnny misspoke about mesquite trees here. You won't find any here unless it's a scrubby small bush in the woods. You have to go farther west to find a mesquite “tree”. I'd never seen a “tree” of mesquite until I saw some west of Austin. Now, pine trees, man have we got those. In March, everything here is covered with yellow pine pollen. I have to turn on the windshield washer to be able to see out the car window when I get in the car. I try to stay in the house during this yellow dump of pollen as I'm allergic to every tree pollen.
Mesquite does not grow in the piney woods. But Mesquite begins to leaf out around the first of April.
