It does not look (from the picture) like something the Reformers would sanction. “Modest apparel?”
Films about women encountering the spirits of spouses surrogate or otherwise was a common theme during a time when so many men were either at war or dead from war. The Ghost and Mrs Muir was another one.
Interesting to see that old films can be viewed in their entirety on YouTube.
The actress Hope Lange was in the TV series of that story. The ghost was a tall middle aged man with a British accent. It took me a while to understand they were not ‘an item’, just good friends. Hope Lange reminded me of Doris Day, but without most of the charisma and playfulness of Doris back then
Thank you!
Quite a few of them in fact.
I need to start taking the time to watch some of them.
Yep. The thing I like about films made during the Hays Code era(from the early 1930s to the mid to late 1960s when the ratings system started) is that Hollywood had to get their scripts preapproved prior to filming. Consequently, most films made prior to 1968 could be shown on TV without drastic ending.
I’d recommend films directed by Frank Capra and Howard Hawks to get started with ones made prior to 1970.
Bookmark.
I always thought Joan Leslie should have been a bigger star. Always liked her.
She’s quite beautiful in this film. I read that she got blacklisted by Jack Warner because she wanted to play more grown up roles(like her role in this film).
Thank you for this excellent suggestion.
You’re welcome. Was that your first time to see it?
