Films about women encountering the spirits of spouses surrogate or otherwise was a common theme during a time when so many men were either at war or dead from war. The Ghost and Mrs Muir was another one.

The actress Hope Lange was in the TV series of that story. The ghost was a tall middle aged man with a British accent. It took me a while to understand they were not ‘an item’, just good friends. Hope Lange reminded me of Doris Day, but without most of the charisma and playfulness of Doris back then
