TechCrunch has learned about noted technology investor Tim Drapers plan to split California into six separate states, including a Northern California slice appropriately named Silicon Valley.
Draper shared his vision with TechCrunch tonight. He says hes submitting a polished version to the states Attorney General in the form of a ballot proposition proposal within the next 48 hours. Six Californias already has a campaign website up and is eager for an army of volunteers.
Weve pasted the full ballot initiative below, along with the redrawn map of California. Essentially, the idea is to section off California into six horizontal slices, with Silicon Valley getting its own region stretching from the Sierras to the Bay Area beaches.
Southern California would also get its own slice of isolationist glory, with the new state West California consisting of Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, among other areas.
In an email, Draper tells me there are five key reasons hes pushing the initiative:
1. It is about time California was properly represented with Senators in Washington. Now our number of Senators per person will be about average.
2. Competition is good, monopolies are bad. This initiative encourages more competition and less monopolistic power. Like all competitive systems, costs will be lower and service will be better.
3. Each new state can start fresh. From a new crowd sourced state flower to a more relevant constitution.
4. Decisions can be more relevant to the population. The regulations in one new state are not appropriate for another.
5. Individuals can move between states more freely.

When that unbelievably offensive ad was launched in Mexico, I wrote a very strongly worded letter to the company. I, in fact, had been a regular Absolut drinker for many years, but I informed them that another drop would never again pass my lips. And I have kept that promise.
How many qualify as provinces of Mexico?
um... no.
we don’t need 10 new liberal senators in the senate.
how about instead we combine the entire northeast into ONE big state and eliminate about 18 liberal Senators !
I had though of a rather different division, involving the state of Nevada.
The southern part of Nevada, including Clark County and most particularly Las Vegas, would be ceded to California, and the point where the state line turns north, in the middle of Lake Tahoe, simply draw the line straight west to the Pacific Ocean. Nevada gets access to the sea, and both Sacramento and San Francisco stay in the “New California”, which now has the revenue from Las Vegas to help with the state’s budget problem.
Las Vegas has sucked the remainder of Nevada dry (literally) with its diversion of water rights, from areas that could not deliver water to the Las Vegas region by any simple gravity or even major engineering means. Las Vegas should be dealing with Los Angeles for the water rights, not Elko or Fallon.
it could be called “sillyCon valley” instead then...
Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, and Maryland should all be merged into one big liberal hell hole.
Or Maybe even merge all of them with New York.
That would pretty much fix the US for the next 100 years since it would eliminate about 18 liberal Senators.
12 Senators from California. Hell no. I would however consider liberating interior Califonia from the rest of the state.
I’d like to see it become a separate nation...along with about a dozen other states. This newly formed nation....the “Marxist States of America”...can print all the EBT cards it wants....allow people of all seven genders to marry goats, hamsters and bacteria.....and can mandate that all white male babies be aborted within 6 hours of conception.
That would be okay as long as those of us in Orange County can become non-Californians. Maybe take the orange portion of the map and annex it into Arizona? It looks like it covers Orange, Riverside, San Diego and San Bernardino counties. Overall a decent mix without all the L.A. garbage. Then AZ would have Newport Beach for yachting and Big Bear for skiing and Temecula for wine and Camp Pendleton for our brave military peeps.
Mmmmm.... 12 senators for CA?
One of the big challenges is apportioning the huge debt of state public pensions - 170b by some estimates. Would it be done proportionally by population?
Oregon is already the second section of California. There are as many CA imports as there are Oregon natives.
Yes that is a pretty silly place for a state line.
Though, the two sides are dramatically different.
Just saying.
Cut up Texas too. The other state should be New York and then all would be good.
One California is one too freakin’ many...
The map neglects that all of Central America except Panama were also part of Mexico at the beginning...
One California is enuff....
If LA were in the orange area, then the blue and red sections would be conservative, all else leftwing, If LA were in the green area, then blue, red, and orange would be conservative, all else leftwing. This map looks like something a leftwinger would come up with in order to gerrymander 4 or or so new blue states. If it were up to me, I would split it three ways - the coast from San Francisco down to LA would be one, the rest of the state south of Sacramento would be 2, and the rest of the state north of Sac would be 3.
Six Californias instead of one.
