First men became enamoured with grooming regimes, but now it seems the metrosexual man has started talking in a more feminine way too.
A new study has revealed that modern men are starting to uptalk by rising in pitch at the ends of sentences.
The speech pattern is associated with young women from southern California, notably Clueless lead character Cher Horowitz, but is now common amongst younger people.

With all of these men lining up to get neutered
It's hip now to be feminized
I don't highlight my hair
I've still got a pair
Yeah honey, I'm still a guy
Oh my eyebrows ain't plucked
There's a gun in my truck
Oh thank God, I'm still a guy
My theory is, that after decades of women taking hormones for birth control, they ‘flooded’ their bodies with the stuff and the male children born to them were exposed to an over abundance of these hormones, thus giving them more female characteristics than past generations of males. ???
I think fishtank is referring to a speaking voice rather than a singing voice. In which case, a speech coach could be quite helpful.
Yup. That one has been p!$$ing me off for years.
Lowest form of life in commercials? White Male. Can't cook. Can't feed a child a TV dinner (Heaven help him if Super Mom has to go away on business...then he gets a lesson on the color coded Tupperware in the 'fridge). Can't do anything that could be considered domestic. Has all the neat tools or wants them but has no clue how to use them. Black Males occupy the Madison Avenue rung just above the White Male.
The Highest form of life in commercials? The Black Female. She takes no crap from anyone. She can do anything. She knows everything. NO ONE may contradict her. If it happens, watch out.
Hispanic Females occupy the Madison Avenue rung right below the Black Female.
I am amazed at how small teenage boys are. Back in the 80s half of us were in the gym throwing the iron around. Granted, the family docs were helping out with “supplements”, but that was maybe 10% of us. What do teenage girls see in long haired, skinny armed, lightweights ?
Oh my gosh....
Business men have been having manicures for DECADES. I saw this a LONG time ago.
There is NOTHING wrong with men having well-groomed hands. They don't need color on the hands to be well-groomed, just hands that show CARE.
Anyone dealing with the public takes special care of his/her hair, so why not the hands? We shake hands at the beginning and end of a "deal" and when we meet and greet each others. Hands ARE very important.
Yup I think it started with Valley Girls.
Years ago I spoke with the HR director of a large F500 firm and she told me that in an interview if she heard what she referred to as ‘upward intonations” she would move that persons name into the “NO” column.
“Its like so totally unprofessional”
My biggest linguistic pet peeve as of late is how the youth are using “so...” with a drawn out ‘o’ at the end of sentences as if to elicit a response from others or otherwise just fill the air with vacuous noise.
Hell, I run across dozens of pictures of text messages between teens on sites like Reddit and Imgur, and I literally cannot understand what they’re saying. I’m 33 years old! I’m far from what I would consider “out of the loop,” but these kids are on a completely different, I contend DUMBER, level than the rest of us.
Like actually, I think you are literally basically right. ;)

Oh, like I totally hate that? You know, where every declarative sentence is really a question? Like, the speaker is insecure about making an assertion so qualifies it with the insecure vocal uplift? I see this in young men now, and I used to hate it in women.
Barbara Walters had an incurable speech impediment. She couldn't say "r"s. It's impossible to cure so she avoided the words with an "r." Learn to avoid the "th" sound. The Germans don't have that sound in their vocabulary at all. Instead of saying THINK or THING, they say "tink" and "ting." It's just part of sounding German.
People who know you and/or love you don't care really about your lisp. It's really what you say and how you say things that count, isn't it?
Birth control and birth control chemicals are the greatest influence in our time and all of it toward the negative
Our country and its culture are so influenced by it and so insidiously, that its not even an elephant in the room though in a way it
People want the govt to do something about it
Why? Why is the government so unacceptably invasive about everything but conservatives accept a call for the govt to help us stem the destructive properties of birth control?
The effects are so imbedded at this stage
But my view falls as flat as the similar view did in 1968, when written by the prophetic pope Paul VI and his staff of theologians
Our culture is headed for worse before it finally improves but only after a rejection of this weird anti family anti feminine anti male baby killing spree brought on by the normalization push of birth control
Think about it
....as if.....
God, that is such an annoying commercial.
No surprise at all from a society that thinks it’s okay to start 90% of their sentences with “Well, I mean .....”
I often have to rely on my wife to translate for me. She’s better at figuring out what they’re attempting to say. Women are better at these linquistic things. :)
