If the goal is to take over the prison because it is a secure location does it make sense to use a tank to blow the s*** out of the place and render it uninhabitable? Does it make sense to shoot at the walls instead of the enemy firing at you from behind light cover? A few well placed tank rounds could have almost completely eliminated resistance from the prison.

Why did the gov kill Hershel instead of Michonne since we know he HATES her?

One of the reviews explained it well: Killing Hershel hurts Rick and the group more than killing Michonne.

And the Governor only sought to hurt them. Period. No way would they have been permitted to live if they HAD left the prison voluntarily.

My thoughts about the attack as well. The Gov’s goal was not to take over the prison. It was to punish the people living there.

He killed Hershel because Hershel meant more to Rick.

All in all the tactics of that attack were pretty bad.
