With only a second left on the clock, Chris Davis caught a 57-yard field-goal attempt that fell short, got up the left side and returned it 100 yards to give the No. 4 Tigers a 34-28 win over No. 1 Alabama and the SEC West title.
Now, Auburn (11-1, 7-1 SEC) has a shot at the SEC title and possibly a national championship all left on the table.
For the second straight game, the clock was running down, and the Tigers had little time left.
That's when Nick Marshall came up with another play.
After a drive spent handing the ball off over and over again, Marshall kept the ball on the zone read, then pulled up short and floated a pass to a wide-open Sammie Coates, who raced in with a 39-yard touchdown to tie the game.
Badly needing some momentum to erase a 21-7 deficit, Auburn went back to the running game that has carried the Tigers all season.
Held without a rushing yard for most of the second quarter, Auburn ripped off a 7-play, 81-yard drive near the end of the first half, punctuated by a 40-yard burst from Mason up the middle to set up his own 2-yard score.
And then, given the ball to start the second half, Auburn kept the momentum going, alternating Marshall and Mason on a nine-play, 69-yard drive that Marshall capped by firing a 13-yard strike to C.J. Uzomah in the corner of the end zone to tie the game at 21.
But after AJ McCarron's 99-yard strike to Amari Toomer, the Tigers had trouble getting going offensively, and the defense came up big with two stops, a fourth-down stand by Carl Lawson and a blocked field goal by Robenson Therezie that set up Auburn's final drive to set up a trip to Atlanta
Twitter explodes over Auburns last-second victory over Alabama
Isn’t this why they call Alabama the crimson tide?
Not if Ohio State remains undefeated. Auburn has a loss.
Florida State and Ohio State are the only 2 unbeaten BCS teams, and the BCS has its insider understandings.
If there were playoffs this year, it would probably be those 2 plus Alabama plus a fourth team. I’d probably give it to Auburn or Oklahoma State based on strength of schedule. I don’t think the writers and computer are going to believe Auburn is better than Alabama.
My guess is they’d try to spread it to another conference, so it would be Okie State.
Woo Freakin’ Hoo! We are still celebrating here. Our local CBS station kept playing that last play over & over & over. I’m ready to order me a new Gus Bus t-shirt . . . my last one was after the win over A&M. Daughter is in the Auburn band. Bet they are rockin’ in Auburn tonight @ Toomer’s and all over town!!!!
no they don’t sell alcohol.

How to lose another National Championship in One Second!
I was underage at the time and so I stuck to eating oranges when it came to refreshment at my alma mater. No, actually, I don't know how much vodka you can inject into an orange. Why do you ask?
Livin’ on a Prayer!
lol. You are over the threads. Excited much? Ha!
Run Forrest, RUUUUN!
Rockin’ indeed- Took My wife and I an hour to get to Glenn Ave from Jordan -Hare (we were at the amphitheater) and start driving home. I cant say for certain, but some of those young ladies and their escorts appear to have been drinking.
One of the women in my neighborhood kept screaming every time Auburn scored. Glad I was watching the same game and understood the screams. That last touchdown brought out the best in her.
Technically the clock did not reach 0 until after the ball
carrier’s touched the ground out of bounds according
to the camera. HOWEVER, when do we EVER see the
the clock NOT tick off another 1 sec, at least, after the
ball carrier steps out of bounds? Must be an end- of -
game phenomenum. Still, I’m happy for Auburn.
Trying from 57 yards out was just stupid.
Saban has won 3 national titles in 5 years. I think he knows how to coach. One thing is certain, they won’t lose again in the regular season. If Auburn and Ohio State lose Saban will be playing for another title. Mark it down.
A friend’s daughter who goes to Auburn said this to him today, before the game:
“Dad, if God favors Alabama so much, why did he make sunsets orange?”
LOL
Go Bucks! OSU and FSU in the national championship.
But, if you want to go to Tuscaloosa and become a lawyer, a politician...or some other kind of parasite...you're on your own."
Ohio State will win it...hopefully no SEC team makes it. They have been way over rated all year.
