There seemed little doubt a real game would be played today, with Magnus the consummate player, and Anand unwilling to disappoint his fans for not trying. Anand played a hedgehog, and the game nearly went sour, but after Magnus returned the favor, a long battle ensued in a fascinating knight endgame Magnus might have won. They drew in the end and a new king was crowned.

the comparison between kasparov and carlsen is akin to the comparison between jack and tiger.
Carlsen maybe 22, but there are many who think he is the best player ever.
A good match...slow start (the first few games were a snooze fest) but it picked up with each round. Game 9 was spectacular.
Although having a new champion is exciting, I don’t think anyone is surprised by the outcome. I can’t figure out what Anand was thinking during most of the games...he blundered his way through defeats and draws and never seemed to give Carlsen a real run for his money. (Again, except in game 9, but his shocking knight move at the end was suicide).
