Underlying all gun control ideology is this one belief. Private citizens dont need firearms because the police will protect them from crime. That belief is both false and dangerous for two reasons.
First, the police cannot and do not protect everyone from crime. Second, the government and the police in most localities owe no legal duty to protect individuals from criminal attack. When it comes to deterring crime and defending against criminals, individuals are ultimately responsible for themselves and their loved ones. Depending solely on police emergency response means relying on the telephone as the only defensive tool. Too often, citizens in trouble dial 911 . . . and die.
Its not just that the police cannot protect you. They dont even have to come when you call. In most states the government and police owe no legal duty to protect individual citizens from criminal attack. The District of Columbias highest court spelled out plainly the fundamental principle that a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any particular individual citizen.
Government lulls the public into trusting it to provide everything, takes away the peoples means of providing for themselves, and then claims it has no duty to provide after all. Noting the fatal irony in the gun control context, James Bovard has written that government has a specific, concrete obligation to disarm each citizen, but only an abstract obligation to defend the citizen. Gun control; Bovard notes, is one of the best examples of laws that corner private citizensforcing them either to put themselves into danger or to be a lawbreaker.

Please read this excellent article and give it to people who think that dialing 9-1-1 is going to keep them safe. The author also has a book available on Amazon.com.
Dial 911-—and die waiting.
Stay safe, stay armed. Illegal in your state? You have to take your chances, I guess.
Or you can hire a security system who will dial 9-1-1 for you (i.e., they’re pretty worthless).
Better yet, just give them the majority decision in Castle Rock v. Gonzales, (2005). The case involved a woman with a restraining order demanding to know why, when she called the police to tell them to go get her children from her estranged husband, the police did nothing and her children ended up dead.
The SCOTUS found that even with a court order, the police have no duty to protect. Never mind someone who just up and calls 911.
Stay safe, stay armed. Illegal in your state? You have to take your chances, I guess.
Sometimes it needs to happen to you, and then you get it. I’m just a white suburban mom who grew up in lib NY. I became an NRA member after I was robbed at knifepoint. The whole thing was long over by the time I got to dial 911.
Where I live (when not in Oz) it’ll take a deputy almost 45 mins to get to us if they’re not busy somewhere else. We don’t have a problem with that. Gives us plenty of time to take care of things .......
It’s also interesting why they have the logo on their cruisers that state: “To Protect And To Serve” ....like who?
Whom ?
The movie American blackout was a joke in that it showed police driving around. In a real blackout/looting/riot, the police would be protecting selves first.
“Where I live (when not in Oz) itll take a deputy almost 45 mins to get to us if theyre not busy somewhere else.”
Sounds good unlike our Hollywood department. The shooting at Vine and Sunset 2 years ago where the cops finally showed up was 45 minutes...and they were 3 blocks away. The only thing cops are good at are donuts and chalk lines.
Home invasion for one. We live on six acres of heavily wooded terrain six hundred feet up the side of a mountain on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula. We back up to almost 200 sq. miles of national forest. There’s meth labs up in the hills along with other things. There are maybe six deputies that cover the county.
So these guys won't protect me or my family, but they want to continue these "no knock" midnight raids on people's homes......the same people who pay their salaries via property taxes.
Heard you can’t protect yourself in Kaliphornistan. Only gangbangers can.
Governments are worthy only of the loyalty and respect they show their citizens.
for far to many in law enforcement is to protect their little tin god positions and to serve their political bosses. Law enforcement today has in large part adopted their organization as family. They cover and lie for each other thus the rule of law and innocent victims mean squat. Oath??? Hah! There really aren't enough of the good ones to even try to count.
Even in its best form, the idea of police protection was tenuous because of response time. Joe Biden, who recently falsely promised that rapes would all be prevented by the appearance of brawny cops, never got this memo, or else just lied - again.
But the liberals now have another secret weapon, illustrated by their war on so-called “stand your ground” laws. Their weapon: Run.
I mean redeploy.
First of all, the kind of big government needed to protect citizens from criminals would be too evil and too colossal for even a semblance of freedom to survive. Second of all, cops with guns are proving to be as bad or worse than criminals with guns. We put our lives at risk anytime we involve cops in anything. Free people are better off taking responsibility for their own protection.
Even if the police were obligated to respond to “911” calls, it still wouldn’t matter in the vast majority of emergencies. It’s not like there is going to be a manned police car staged in every neighborhood waiting for a 911 call to come in.
