The November 5th issue of Runner's World carries a column by athlete Nick Symmonds calling for a handgun ban for everyone except police and military personnel.
The column also calls for a ban on "assault rifles," while kindly proposing that regular citizens should be allowed to keep a shotgun with which to hunt birds and a "[rifle]...for big game animals."

gee...one would THINK that after the Boston Marathon......fiasco....that runners would ikely consider CARRYING..whilst they run.
I call a ban on this libtard writing for a mag and giving his stupid opinion.
Runner’s World?Never heard of it,just another homo infested commie rag-most likely.
I hope Nick Symmonds gets one of those friendly police anal probes.
I run lots of local races, mostly 5Ks, and your typical entrant would not be what i would call your former Army Ranger, SEAL, or para military gym rat type! Its mostly the environmental crowd or an event supporting some liberal fundraiser. I love wearing my Air Force Academy garb to these events...
I base all my political beliefs upon someone else’s 800m run time. I guess we should listen to Nick. /s
I fell utterly isolated form what one might call the normal world at large here in Marin County....where everybody and his brother is an enviro-weenie greenie, and so I may from time to time misjudge the general sanity and common sense of those elsewhere in the Nation.
Ill bet the Air Force “vibe” drives em nuts!
Oh, and don’t forget the criminals there, Nick. Hope you can outrun a bullet, dumbass, but you apparently can outrun common sense.
I was sitting in an Israeli restaurant next door to a “Runners’ Shoppe” and noticed this ABSURD sign in the window:
“November is NATIONAL RUNNERS SAFETY MONTH”
I could barely contain my mirth. The Israeli Waitress and i had a good chuckle when I remarked :
“Is this an initiative to issue all solo runners a CCW?
Or is it a reminder to remember to make sure your shoe laces are tied?”
national runners safety month! Can you believe it?
It is difficult to imagine a better running magazine cover photo, than one of Texas Governor and Presidential candidate Rick Perry, in his jogging shorts with his jogging pistol, after he used it on a morning run, but I bet they never even considered it.
“I’ll give you my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.”
what a great opportunity to shoot off my mouth but i goota run
You're right about that. And the real runners are self absorbed pretentious @-holes. I run races but I'm not a runner, I only starting running in races to shut up the runner f@gs who talk about how great they are running.
Another idiot who knows absolutely nothing about firearms.
He needs to stick to running. Perhaps he can “run away” from trouble instead.
I gave up on cardio a couple of years ago and embraced weight training instead. I’m quite satisfied with the change. I do still take an occasional long walk, and I’m very happy to now be able to conceal my weapon in case of a threat from man or beast.
I am not familiar with Runner’s World magazine.
But, it sounds like a magazine for running or jogging enthusiasts.
Why would a publication which specializes in a certain activity, publish a liberal political viewpoint on a completely unrelated issue???? Help me out here. What am I missing???
After all, in the running community, isn’t it likely that there are many 2nd amendment enthusiasts, or those who are conservative in their social/political beliefs???? Isn’t it presumptuous for their editors to assume that a liberal message will be welcomed by their readers???
And what does a hot social/political issue have to do with running anyway?????
I run and bike I get weird looks when I show up at the local bike ski shop in my hunting gear.
Kinda like bob costas ranting about guns during an nfl show. Typical panty “waste” attitudes.
