After 19-year-old Tyler Comstock quarreled with his father and drove off in his truck, the elder Comstock decided to teach him a lesson by reporting the truck to the police as stolen.
Soon after, cops chased down Tyler and shot him to death despite receiving orders from dispatch to cease their pursuit.
On Monday, an argument broke out between Tyler and his father, James Comstock, who refused to buy his son a pack of cigarettes. Tyler stormed off and left in his fathers truck, which is owned by a lawn care company.
Cops pursued Tyler to the nearby Iowa State University campus in Ames, Iowa. During the chase, Comstock rammed a police vehicle at least once, according to reports.
Still, a recently released audio file revealed that dispatchers twice instructed police to stop following Comstock. The officers did not obey.
The truck eventually came to a stop in the middle of campus property, at which point police ordered Comstock to turn off the engine. Instead, the 19-year-old revved it, prompting Ames Police Officer Adam McPherson to fire six shots into the truck. Two of them hit Comstock, killing him at the scene.

In my opinion, the cops should be fired for endangering people like that in the first place. Didn't they have the presence of mind to let the kid drive off? Wait until he ran out of gas? He was hauling a trailer, for god's sake! The police escalated this, his blood is on their hands, and so would be the blood of any injured pedestrians. Those were individual men in those cop cars making stupid choices that endangered lives far more than the 19 year old kid mad at his pop because he wouldn't get him a pack of smokes.
Some people shouldn't be cops. These guys are prime examples. They should be run out of town on a rail. A wise law officer would have resolved this with zero violence and a little humane engenuity.
WRONG. He was killed as a direct result of a choice made by an inept gun-weilding police officer. THAT is why he was killed; he was killed as a direct result of overreacting cops.
Obviously, this never even needed to go into car chase territory. It was his dad's truck, for crying out loud!!! And it was hauling a little trailer! The cops knew that, right? Or were they pursuing him under the impression that he'd just robbed a bank? That video is live Keystone Cops going deadly.
They sure as hell are.
Exactly.
There is only ONE reason anyone's life was endangered here -- it's because the cop decided to chase and when told to back off, refused. PERIOD. The kid was crazy, but wouldn't have done this if the cops weren't chasing him. They could have caught up with him in a totally different way and meted out much better justice. He was a kid. I've known more than a few to grow out of things like that into pretty good productive Americans.
... which they could have done very simply by ending their pursuit. They'd have avoided harm to others and themselves by letting the stupid kid go and catching up to him later. THEY are the ones who endangered lives and ultimately, took one in pure waste.
” THEY are the ones who endangered lives “
I bet you blame girls for rape, too, huh?
Yes, they are the ones who endangered lives. You equate a kid squirreling off in front of some cops and their totally wasteful pursuit directly creating mayhem, and then blaming the cops, like blaming a woman for being raped? Holy cow.
What would the kid in the truck have done if the cops had simply stopped and let him go?
They could have caught up with him later. After all, it wasn't serious, it was basically a domestic dispute.
One thing about threads like this one -- they sure bring out the authoritarians.
“One thing about threads like this one — they sure bring out the authoritarians.”
” After all, it wasn’t serious, it was basically a domestic dispute. “
No, they bring out the anarchists like you.
As far as serious, ask the people that crashed into the kid’s trailer he sped through the stoplight with. You obviously don’t have a clue what happened here, you just want to mouth off.
“Stand down was recommended from dispatch ... twice.”
Dispatch doesn’t give orders. We learned that from Zimmerman, right?
Suicide by cop is when the perp wants to die... this kid didn’t want to die... and I’m sure his father didn’t want him to die. Sad all the way around.
Look at the video. there was at least three points of no turning back for this possibly recreational drug using youth.
Yeah. Right. A quartet of Keystone Kops, in spite of being asked to pull back, bully the KID into a full-blown chase, endangering God knows how many and shooting the cornered kid down -- you saw in the video how the cop cars had rammed his truck -- until he was dead, to boot.
The "police" -- thugs with badges chasing down a "bad boy" -- earn contempt. You wonder that people "disrespect the police." The video confirms this sad true story of gung-ho gang cops with an authority complex who believe in insisting -- even at the price of endangering dozens of innocents -- that they be respected, dammit, because they're the law!
The chase and the death were entirely the cops' responsibility. The kid was endangering no one until he perceived the cops moving in.
Amen.
Sirens go on, felonious youth pulls over, he lives.
