Man, do I love that fun infomercial for three hours every day. The one for Rush's book.
Rush Limbaugh has a net worth of at least 350 millions dollars and adds tens of millions every year, so he obviously did not write the book to make more money. He wanted to put out something on US history that would be entertaining for youngsters and he has succeeded.
After doing a great show for over 25 years, I think he should promote the book while it is new and the interest in it is peaking.
Totally totally totally off base. The critics here want MORE of stuff like the Limbaugh Theorem and less “content” air time being used as an infomercial. Stunned you totally missed the zeitgeist of the thread, which you did.
I’m glad you bought it. I’m glad he wrote it. I’m glad you like it. Frankly, he could have produced an entire home school curriculum and sold a zillion of it.
None of that is why the OP did what he did. He was talking about how it impacted the air time of the show, period. I really do wonder sometimes how people analyze stuff .how they miss the obvious.
I am totally stunned so many Freepers don’t have any idea what you were doing with this thread. Sad, really ..
I’ve listened to Limbuagh since 1989, 5 days a week, so I have heard just about everything from him. But there are plenty of blowhards here on FR that are so much smarter than him.
I am totally amused that you even thought there was a purpose to his starting this thread other than to just bitch about Rush and the content of his show. Does Art think that Rush will read his compaint and change? Or, does he hope that every freeper will immediately see the light and inform Rush that unless he changes his extremely successful show, they will not listen? You pompous guys make me laugh.
You still miss the point totally miss the point .not only of this thread, but of message boards period, apparently. So let me help you out.
Message boards are FOR DISCUSSION. If we were to limit message forums to just those threads that cause CHANGE, there wouldn’t be any of them. Your entire premise is just totally absurd.
Second, and this is where the real mental dullness comes in, is it is obvious to me that the OP, whom I do NOT know, is a big Rush fan and just frustrated that a show he really really likes is being dirven off the rails with an almost comical amount of self promotion of this book. And it is.
I suspect that the real Rush listeners are the ones who are like the OP .while the occaisonal listners who have no idea what has happened to show content the last week are like you, drive by trolls.
At least, its either that or you just ain’t too smart. Take your pick.
If he posted to just bitch that he didn't like Rush talking about his new book, how much discussion could there be? All he could expect, knowing that he could not change the situation, is that someone may agree or disagree with him.
Now if you super-intelligent overseers of us uneducated and dumb, normal freepers would enlighten us on how his post does anything to improve FR, go to it. I think the football threads are more entertaining. At least I don't see any pomposity in those discussions.
You keep bringing up this smart/dumb argument .obsessing with that .and missing the main point of the poster. Forget smart or dumb, but I’m telling you the dynamic here that has totally escaped you is that the complainers are the most ardent listeners who are the biggest over all supporters of Rush.
Apparently, you cannot understand the concept of wanting “your team” to do something different because you think it’s “hurting your team.” You have jumped to the conclusion that these are anti Rush folks. You are the ones totally ignoring the idea that a forum like this is a great place to blow off steam without thinking something is going to change.
Now a case can be made that to miss all of that is to be dense, which may or may not be the case for you. Either way, you have totally totally soooooo missed the point, thus your counter arguments make no sense in context.
Conservatism does NOT begin and end with turning a profit by whatever means possible, and the total lack of criticism thereof. By that logic, FReepers who wish to boycott ammunition manufacturers who are contributing to the DHS's massive ammo stockpile are being unreasonable. These companies are just trying to turn a profit! And crony-capitalist corporations that outsource jobs from America to China -- they're just trying to turn a profit for crying out loud! What right have you to complain? I could go on, but this isn't my main point.
Conservatism begins and ends with freedom...Freedom of speech, worship, privacy, the freedom to bear arms...In general, freedom from GOVERNMENT intrusion, which absolutely includes the freedom to conduct business and turn a profit. These are restrictions aimed at the government, not private citizens. Rush doesn't have a right to freedom from criticism.
I have every right to disapprove of the methods to turn a profit. And since I disapprove of Rush using his show as a 3-hour long infomercial, I have stopped listening to him.
In short, too say that conservatism begins and ends with turning a profit by whatever means possible, and the lack of criticism thereof, betrays the most shallow possible understanding of conservatism.
First, I suspect that like me, most of the others could not care less about Art's complaint. We listen to rush every day and applaud his success. If most of them are like me, we think Rush does what he does to yank a few chains.
Secondly, there are a few Rush haters on FR such as the one who calls him a windbag.
Third, it was your post that caused me to respond as I felt you were insulting the majority of the people on the thread.
exactly right
I think there was a tremendous “failure to commuincate” here. I assure you the OP, nor anyone who agreed with him, is anti Rush. And yet, most of the folks who piled on the OP assumed that.
The only people upset about Rush’s incredible airtime investment in this book are the HEAVIEST listeners .ie his BIGGEST fans. The only people who would assume otherwise are VERY LIGHT LISTENERS or NON listeners who have no idea the absurd amount of time being discussed here - and thus totally missed the OP point.
That’s why this thread got turned upside down .those accused of being Anti Rush are actually his biggest fans - the ones most affected by all of the airtime on the book.
Yep, you are right. And beyond that .the best Rush customers, ie best listeners, are that way because of what they’ve gotten in return for their time investment over perhaps 25 years in some cases. As such, it’s the BEST customers are who are the MOST UPSET by this odd, almost awkward, infomercial programming.
Especially when he takes calls on the book. Its his show, his right, and he can do with it what he wants. As a homeschool parent, I hope he sells millions. But I gotta tell you, some mom calling in to gush about the horse named Liberty is shitty boring radio. Norally Rush is Excellence in Broadcasting. Not this past week. That’s all I’m saying.
Also, read post 94 ..
you are a total jerk - with a major reading comprehension problem. MY post was about the fact that the GATEKEEPERS have an image problem with Rush, that is all, and so will make it that much more difficult for his book to gain any real entrance into young people’s studies. It will be a great boost for the families and children who already understand these things.
And I suggested had he have been a little less aggressive with his face and name being plastered all over the book, it may have gotten through a few more academic roadblocks. That is all.
Don’t try to surmise beliefs or principles, or what I have problems with... I see it as an opportunity that could have been much more effective had Rush taken into consideration the outline of the landscape and applied a little stealth to the situation. You know, like the progressives did to gain their strongholds. Are we about rush or changing the next generation.
If you care about the next generation, held prisoner at all levels in the govt school system, we lost what might have been a great opportunity to talk to them. As it is, Rush will become the center of the controversy there is sure to be. His name will be in the papers and many children will lose out. Get yourself some talcum powder once you pry your lips loose from rush’s ass and think clearly about what i said.
thanks and lot of revenue streams here .with the imbed commercials for Lifelock and so on are one thing don’t love them, but it’s business.
The Tea is yet another thing. Not sure if this is regulated (does Rush tea company have to pay the RL Show? If so, how?) or not.
But this book thing has gone about ten steps further than any of these.
I mean, I love wives
I have one
I love kids
have 3
love homeschooling
we did it for all 3
.glad he wrote the book and glad it’s selling - I just don’t want to listen to a bunc of moms gushingabout Liberty the talking horse on the show
. It’s just not why I listen
.I don’t think it’s compelling radio. I think this will show up in ratings, or perhaps angering other advertisers at some point. That’s all I was saying. You prolly agree...
I feel you bros .all kinds of absurd projection and phony ascribing of beliefs on this thread. They are almost always 180 degrees from the actual truth. I don;t happen to totally agree with your assessment of the books impact but I certainly am not questioning your beliefs ..or loyalty to the cause.
