NASA's checked its space rock maths and it's not good news
"If you look at the number of impacts detected by US government sensors over the past few decades you find the impact rate of kiloton-class objects is greater than would be indicated by the telescopic surveys," said Bill Cooke, meteoroid environment office lead at NASAs Marshall Space Flight Center at a press conference on Wednesday.
"Over the past few decades we've seen an impact rate about seven times greater than the current state of the telescopic surveys would indicate."

What are the odds it will hit Washington DC?
Not high enough...
I love to tweak (not twerk) libs with this. This is a REAL threat whereas global warming is a lie
So I need to be wearin’ my race helmet when I’m walking the dog?
{sigh} Not all that good, I’m afraid.
How cool would it be if you could build an asteroid magnet into Obama’s golf bag?
“So I need to be wearin my race helmet when Im walking the dog?”
Oh, man, have you stumbled onto a great money making idea! SPACE-HELMETS! Comes with Emergency Weather and Alert radio built into the headset for warnings of incoming asteroids! Also has a built-in flashlight and Geiger counter!
How good was NASA at predicting the meteor that hit Chelyabinsk?
Hint: they didn’t have a clue it was coming! They were too busy with their Muslim outreach program.
I'd bet good money that was the first thought that occurred to nearly every FReeper who clicked this thread.
"They blew up Congress...HA HA HA HA HA!"
bttt
Infomercial up in 3....2....1....
And a built in decoder ring.
Another effect of global warming./s
Wait till we pass through the Comet Ison tail debris field on 1/18/14 and you’ll see what kind of “hush hush” has been happening at NASA.
“How cool would it be if you could build an asteroid magnet into Obamas golf bag?”
Well the evil rich people figured out how to keep their big fancy houses safer from tornadoes by having mobile homes fitted with tornado magnets so. i guess anythings possible.
This is why we should colonize space, Imagine if we had 1000 orbital space colonies, we could track EVERYTHING in the solar system..
Why this fear mongering about events we cannot control?
