Jose Cazares said he was hanging out with friends when they heard gunshots, which they thought were firecrackers. He said he saw a boy shoot two students. He said the boy then aimed the gun at his chest, but Landsberry stepped between him and the shooter.

"He was telling him to stop and put the gun down. Then the kid, he yelled out 'No!' Like, he was yelling at him, and he shot him," Jose told NBC's "Today" show on Tuesday. "He was calm, he was holding out his hand like, 'put the gun in my hand.'"

Thank you sir and prayers to your family. A sad day in Reno/Sparks for sure. Glancing at the reno gazette urinal this morning, they actually had a small note on the front page, urging people to not politicize this incident or jump to conclusions as to why it occurred. Some nerve they have. Knowing the clowns that run this fish wrapper, they're probably already arranging for nanny bloomers or ms. mark kelley-giffords to show up in town as soon as possible. I didn't see any mention of the weapon used but it will probably be described as an S&W .38 revolver/AR-15 style weapon. The online comments already started yesterday within hours of the event. One brilliant poster said that's what you get with people who cling to their guns and religion. Disgusting. Another poster stated she was a plinker/target shooter but would gladly give up he "hobby" if it meant keeping others safe. Huh? Trust the media? Wouldn't bet my life on it. Again, thank you Mr. Landsberry

Quotes from the article.

“He said the boy then aimed the gun at his chest, but Landsberry stepped between him and the shooter.”

“It was no shock to family members that Landsberry — a married military veteran with two stepdaughters — would take a bullet.”

Why didn’t Mr. Landsberry tackle this 12 year old and then take the gun and beat him silly with it?

If only a teacher had been armed at that gun-free zone it could have prevented more children from being killed or maimed.

I have family in Sparks. According to my sister, A cousins’ ex-husband’s daughter was walking alongside the shooter when he opened fire. She said that the two wounded boys were bullying the shooter. The girl is pretty upset.

Street survival principle for all cops is that you never approach a shooter in the manner this brave - but dead - teacher did. You don’t expose yourself no matter how benign your intentions may be. The results of such an act are now obvious. As a Catholic, I believe he now resides in Heaven for his selflessness, but, unfortunately, his family still lives on earth, without him.

I read that some female student (maybe the cousin’s ex husbands daughter) heard the shooter say something like “Why are you laughing at me?” so the bullying part may be right on the money. Guess king hussein’s anti-bullying campaign is about as effective as the obiecare web site. Hazing and bullying has been around forever and not likely to stop anytime soon. There’s always some asshat that wants to make others feel like crap so they can feel good about themselves. Thanks to Mr. Landsberry for making the attempt to stop the boy. Prayers to the families.

In a just country, men like this would be allowed to carry his own defense regardless of location.

“Gun Free Zones” are criminal in their outcome.

"She said that the two wounded boys were bullying the shooter."

Well that's an effective anti-bullying campaign right there.

Unlike the cr*p being spewed by governments all over with my money.

However, bullies rarely continue after a well placed punch in the nose. That it is essentially illegal for youths to defend themselves by fighting back, society has bought responses like this one.

Horrible. And the fault of leftists.

I thought that, too, until I realized that in the process of doing so, the shooter may have discharged the weapon and injured another student or teacher.

Mr. Lansberry is a good man.

We really should examine this assumption.

Was bullying a constant problem for youngsters when most children were homeschool or merely attended a highly age-integrated one room school for three or four months of the year, lived on farms, and were nearly always in the constant company of a caring adult?

I do agree with you that it commonly happens where there are close concentrations of people, especially when they are segregated by age and with no hope for escaping the environment. ( compulsory K-12 socialist-entitlement schooling).

I was listening to Glenn Beck on the radio talk about the bullying problem, and he made a good point.

It was a long yammer, but the gist of it was that we aren’t setting a very good example for our children - all the bullying that is being demonstrated by our politicians, media personalities, etc.

Children do not learn from what we say, but from what we do. Our social discourse is teaching them that bullying is an acceptable method of intimidation in the quest for power.
