Food companies understand that Americans are increasingly interested in buying food that actually seems worth eating. We want food that's some degree of fresh, healthy, natural or otherwise of higher quality. It's for this reason that you see images of plump fruit decorating packages of cereal bars and the greenest broccoli you've ever laid eyes upon appearing on boxes of frozen dinners. At Burger King, you don't order a mere salad - it's a Chicken Caesar Garden Fresh Salad. Those chips aren't just cheese-flavored - they're Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips, with "harvest cheddar" an entirely meaningless term. Few companies have applied this appeal more literally than Papa John's, which for years has boasted "Better pizza. Better ingredients." Printed on every Papa John's pizza box is a little story: "When I founded Papa John's in 1984, my mission was to build a better pizza," says "Papa" John Schnatter. "I went the extra mile to ensure we used the highest quality ingredients available - like fresh, never frozen original dough, all-natural sauce, veggies sliced fresh daily and 100 percent real beef and pork. We think you'll taste the difference." After all, who wouldn't want fresher, better ingredients in their pizza? A great deal of the food we currently eat, both from the supermarket and at chain restaurants, is comprised of ingredients created as cheaply as possible (tomatoes chosen for their shipability, not flavor; chicken as bland as a pizza box because the bird only lived for 10 weeks and ate a monotonous diet) and highly processed additives, many of them not even technically edible...

Gee, what a shocker....NOT
Liberal hatchet job aside, their pizza still sucks.
DAMN! I was just about to pop a pizza into the oven!
grumph!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This ‘article’, blog really, is 100% pure liberal propaganda. She doesn’t even say a single fact about Papa Johns ingredients. She just talks about her inability to get information she demands. I’d tell her to piss off, too.
Heh, when I read your post at #11, I thought to myself...”You could take that one of two ways...”
“Asps. Very dangerous. You go first.”
I will also admit that it’s almost impossible to find decent thin-crust pizza in Chicago. But even crappy thin-crust in Chicago is better than what you find out East or West. (There, I said it).
“which requires him to go into restaurant kitchens”
Nothing ruins what you think might be a good restaurant like going into the kitchen.
“(There, I said it).”
Overall, you’re probably right. Not much competition out here so anything is accepted. We have a nice little Corner Store (no kidding, that’s the name) that has really good sandwiches and pizzas. Real good, for a local joint. However, I have certainly had better.
I think if the pizza was named Papa Ted Cruz’, the commie media would review it about this same way. A hit piece thinly disguised as consumer advocacy.
Yahoo Nuz makes USAToday look highbrow.
I'll bet that you're right. Good catch!
I wonder if this article has something to do with PJ reaction to Obamacare.
My daughter lives in Chicago, but loves Papa Johns when she is here! I think this article was a conservitive hit piece!
My wife and I started eating Papa John’s pizza about ten years ago when we got a pretty good coupon in a flyer. We enjoyed their product for several years. One day, it tasted a bit different and I got a bad case of the runs (my wife was ok). I gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried them about two or three more times over two months with the same results.
No more Papa John’s for us. We usually make our own.
Whine, whine, liberal whine.
It’s called fast food for a reason. In what universe was cheap fast food ever considered nutritious, wholesome and healthy?
Everything has its tradeoffs. In life expediency comes with a price. Whiny-ass libs want everything perfect & they want it for free (i.e. someone else to pay for it). How happy in life can a sour puss lefty be spending their life getting their panties in a bunch over *everything*.
Any person with even a modicum amount of intelligence knows that going to any fast food joint isn’t a “healthy” choice no matter how plump the tomatoes or knowing how wilted the lettuce really is.
Conservatives are not idiots.
We may enjoy fast food now and again but we also know what we are eating.
Of those three (stuffed, deep dish and thin crust), "stuffed pizza" is definitely the best and the most distinctive in terms of taste and quality, but it isn't really a pizza.
New York has a lot of actual pizza, and a certain percentage of it is well-made authentic pizza.
Ah, but you repeat yourself, ad nauseam.
All we are saying is give Pizza a chance.
