If the site is hosted internally, then what costs are there to leave the site up with no changes? If it's externally hosted then hosting fees are paid for in advance so they took down a funded service before the paid-thru date e.g. Next year, next month...not a daily thing

Just screwing the people out of a service that has been paid for

Not the only site. They are taking things down left and right. Probably will use it to hide things too.

Maybe they don’t want millions of people grinding their asses over the WW2 vet fiasco.’Cause if they had a place to leave a comment,I’d rip them a new one.

For the same reason some NOAA/NWS sites have “shutdown” front pages. Obviously the server is up. And the satellites are still orbiting. The shutdown page is to block viewing of images. They were lazy, if you have a deep url the info is still there. They’re just being pricks.

Office the Clerk of the House of Representatives is 404.

Too bad, it’s the only place to read what’s going on there.

Obamacare web sites are “essential”?

Another interesting point is the Old Faithful webcam in Yellowstone. The camera is supposedly offline with a message on the site yellowstone.net blaming it on the shutdown. One problem is that on the usual site there was a notice saying the webcam was sponsored and paid for by a grant from Canon.

The old site is probably available on the wayback machine.

Computer sites do require staff to keep them running. Disk drives fail, among other things. There can be valid reasons for turning the service off given the shutdown’s duration is unknown.

NPS web sites do have useful info but long ago the sites were homogenized and the best content was lost. Search engines can find great info about any park on sites focused on the nearby gateway towns and area. But nps.gov was good for an overview. And so far as parks being closed, many of the big ones have multiple ways in, they cannot all be covered.

If the Barrycades are near you, organize a group civil disobedience action and remove them.

It’s Valerie Jarrett/Chicago thug tactics-—I can just hear her and Obama yucking it up in the Oval Office-—”We’ll make these ignorant buffoons hurt and realize just how much they depend on the government!”

It’s down because Obama is a Chicago thug (to the extent that he is in any way connected to this great country). It’s down so that Obama and his complicit media can blame republicans for it being down, even though government employees did extra work to take the site down purely as a publicity stunt.

If a site belongs to a private company, there is not much cost to maintain it. If it belongs to a gov’t agency, it requires 24 hour well paid gov’t workers that sit around and watch porn all day.

Yesterday, when the stories about Claude Moore Farm, the Mt Vernon parking lot and Colonial Williamsburg being closed hit, I went looking for the backgrounds of Obama appointees working at NPS.

Without the NPS website being available, it was a little challenging to find. Right away, anyways ...

The numbers don't matter, silly!
Obama and his flying monkeys' goal is maximum pain to the greatest number of people.

...and then "blame" it all on the Republicans.

That Bullshit* is no longer credible.

All federal websites are closed and redirecting to a specific page which blames the pubbies.

It takes no effort to maintain a web page. Once designed and uploaded it just sits on the server. This is all a temper tantrum on the part of the little dictator.
