Remember.. ANYONE can be voted Speaker of the House!
You do NOT have to be a Member of the House to become the Speaker. Maybe he could become Speaker before becoming President.
After reading this article in the National Review.. I think it could happen! Just floating the idea!
I want him to have Harry Reid’s old job when Dirty Harry is voted out—when the Seanate goes GOP/Tea Party.
Nope!
ANYONE can be voted in as Speaker.
Doesn’t have to be a House Member.
The House needs a leader. And he ARE ONE!
Not bad either!
I want him to have the top job!
Dubious, at best.
The Constitution says that "[t]he House of Representatives shall chuse[sic] their Speaker and other Officers[.]" (Art. I, sec. 2, cl. 5). It doesn't explicitly say that the Speaker must be a Representative, but never in history did the House ever elect anyone but a current member to be Speaker; in fact, I don't believe anyone other than a current member was ever even considered as Speaker. Most Constitutional scholars doubt that anyone but a member of the House can be Speaker. I can't imagine that the House would ever elect a Senator as Speaker.
Here a while back when the vote was held on Boehner being speaker.. I think it was Rand Paul who got some votes.
It could happen. They just have to vote for whoever the Speaker is.
No, wasn’t Rand Paul.. but Allen West who got some votes last time around.
Best idea I have heard all year.
:)
HONOR LIKE THIS MUST BE REWARDED!
IT’S ON THE SAME PLANE AS...
‘BEAUTY MUST BE AKNOWLEDGED’
OTHERWISE WE ARE NO BETTER THAN NON-sentients.
Cruz is a Senator from Texas. He cannot hold any office in the House.
Uh no ... but nice try. I want Cruz as President not Speaker
Ted, the real hammer, Cruz
I can't think of anything that would be more of an impediment on the path to a Cruz presidency than becoming mired in the black pit of the speakership.
Although it doesn't show on the outside, the job of speaker is a time-consuming routine of behind-the-scenes agendas-setting, meetings, negotiations, telephoning, plus the thankless job of whipping members into line on votes which always creates enemies or tensions.
The reason so many speakers, past and present, have been such real dopes or mediocrities is because House members with loftier goals, superior talents and higher aspirations wouldn't take the job if it was handed to them on a silver platter.
Senator Cruz is too smart to aspire to such a dead-end job even though a speaker has a lot of power....but the power is limited only to the chambers of Congress and the cocktail parties of DC...... not on the year-long (or more) campaign trails of presidential hopefuls across the fruited plain.
No, please let's not saddle our conservative rising star with any pressures to cast eyes on a future glorified desk/wooden podium job that will have no shortage of other applicants.
It would be a waste of Ted Cruz's extraordinary talents and broader political possibilities to tie him down in such a fashion.

I agree Speaker is not for Cruz. I wonder if it is time to look outside the House...That might be very interesting, but the “old guard” will never vote for it!( her...LOL) Boy would she “mix things up”. Alan West? Fred Thompson? I could go on and on!
While I agree that I don’t want Ted as SOH, you do realize that the Speaker is 3rd in line to be president should something happen to the president and vice-president - don’t you? Thank God it nothing happened when Nazi Pelosi was Speaker - she would have automatically become President of the U.S.
I wish Sarah Palin was running for Senate—we could use her right now, standing beside Cruz and Lee.
