Around the Denver area, apartment managers charge fees from prospective renters for credit checks. Many prospective renters lose the money for fees and move on without being allowed to rent, of course. Quite a racket, eh?
I’ve been renting cars for years and never had any hassle except for all their upsell tactics.
Is your credit legitimately bad? If so, you have no business renting a car. If not, you need to get the situation fixed. Maybe somebody stole your identity or something like that.
A little too Business Socialist....I see
The Freeper already had a contract with Avis once they approved his card and reservation....then reneged and kept some of his money. That is not only breach of contract....but Fraud.
Freeper should report incident to his state consumer agency or consumer agency in state where transaction occurred
It’s an unauthorized charge on an undelivered service. Get the “That was Easy” button out — dispute with CC, request arbitration, and watch it all quickly and silently disappear.
It sounds like you were mistreated. Taking the $100 without delivering any value seems unlawful and worth seeking justice.
You reside in Louisiana, but not sure of your location at the time of the incident.
There are 2 organizations that can help you:
1.) National Consumer Law Center http://www.nclc.org/
2.) National Association of Consumer Advocates http://www.naca.net/
You need to organize your complaint into a few cogent sentences and then ask for a brief telephone “consult” with consumer attorneys to see if they will take your case on a contingency basis.
I have been very successful with the above. My legal team that I found through NACA has won millions for consumers that have been wronged.
Word of advice. Get your credit house in order and this won’t happen. I know and I did. If you have to travel, rent, etc on a pre paid card you take your chances. you’re obviously not credit worthy so deal with it. For whatever reason. take care of business and get your house in order. Life is as harsh as we make it.
I don’t believe it’s fraud. If it was Avis would be sued out of business. Avis is a 3 Billion dollar company and no need to commit fraud of 100.00.
We don’t know for sure if the 100 was a temporary hold or actual charge. Hotels and rental cars are notorious for holds on credit cards for more than the charge.
If it was actual no show charge then he can easily reverse the charge.
I went to U-haul and was able to rent a Ford F-150 long bed and the total charges were $64.
I will just never deal with Avis ever again.
I have the same problem with AT&T.
I recently attempted to have a landline from AT&T.
The tech came out and connected it to the wrong place. He did not contact me as he claimed my cell number was a bad number. He did not try the second number I gave AT&T.
Then he came out a second time, supposedly installed it correctly, but the line never worked properly.
I could not get dial up service to work and there was tremendous amount of static on the line.
Maybe it is just the quality of people working in Louisiana that I am having to deal with... I really don't know.
I once tried to get a job in Louisiana, and person doing the hiring was stealing from the state of Louisiana (as I later found out from my family) and was criminally prosecuted.
A family member said that the person who interviewed me realized I was very good with computers and would realize that she was stealing from the state of Louisiana.
But then I guess she just someone like Edwin Edwards and Huey P Long -- crooks in position of responsibility.
Of course that is White Collar crime in Louisiana.
There is plenty of people who steal cell phones (easy to find and prosecute) and credit cards.
It was not that long ago that a family stopped at the wrong service station (Chevron) in Baton Rouge and were beaten up (husband, wife, and daughter).
This was the incident where they were told "you are in the wrong neighborhood"
Just venting, folks...
When I rented the pickup from U-Haul, they took my debit card and only required a $80 deposit. I received about $17 back from that deposit, or I received an email that I should...
