Low altitude high g turns. Very unusual.
Mmmm - H-53 - king of the heavy-lift.
In an enlarged version I could make out “Marines” painted on it. I am about 90 miles from Pensacola and it was headed in that direction or maybe Eglin.
Have had them, V-22’s AH-1’s and UH-1’s flying around here over the past few months.... Coolest thing was from a month ago when I was out in Selma, a V-22 flew overhead at about 500ft.
Tons of Blackhawks, Chinooks, Lakotas, and Kiowa Warriors flying around too... Ft Rucker is not too far flying time from here, nor is Ft Benning.
The C-130’s out of Maxwell fly every couple of days
Then there is the unmarked 757 that does touch and goes at the Montgomery Regional Airport, as well as a few AC-130’s
Today the AT-38’s were buzzing by.
There's another thread today about the A-10, I think that's what Moody has now.
Saw a couple of Ospreys over Griffith Park about two weeks ago, 800-1000 feet.
But they can’t afford a flyover at a military funeral.
How close is this to Mercer Co airport? Lots of work going on there.
I used to get warmup fly-bys on the Delaware River when they had fly-bys for sporting events in Philly. That has been discontinued.... for 3 more years
Judging from the big ol’ cannon sticking out of the side, that’s an AC-130. Those are very bad news for adversaries on the ground.
The main gun should be a 105mm howitzer, I’m having trouble seeing more but there should be at least one 40mm Bofors also. They used to have 20mm rotary cannons, but not any longer as they were considered too short-range.
Most of us voted absentee out of Escambia County FL and we all voted for Bush.
Snowbird’s fly circles around em:-) snowbird’s fly so tight it’s crazy, the Canadian aerobatic team, older planes though. Don’t get me wrong I love the blue angels too, just giving credit where it’s due heh.
Blue Angels fly so tight that if the leader passes gas, his wingman smells it.
Sounds like my kind of place...sigh, instead, I got liberals all around me!
I’m jealous. I would have been out with my video camera.
I worry when they are grounded. Used to live under a flight pattern for McGuire.
The AC-130 that yarddog posted is either a AC130H or AC130U. I can’t remember if the U’s have the cheek blisters on them yet.
They have the 105, as well as a single 40mm, and a single GAU-12 25mm gatling gun.
The 40 is just forward of the 105, so just under the trailing edge of the wing in the second pic, and the 25 isn’t deployed.
The original Vulcans were removed because of incompatability with precision trageting and an insufficient slant range to keep out of MANPADS range.
There is now the AC-130J that’s going to be tested in a few months, as well as the interim AC-130W. The W’s are armed with the 30mm Bushmaster and the AGM-176 Griffin or Viper Strike, SDB’s or Hellfires
I think there was one flying around today tho I never saw it. They make a distinctive sound but not so much that I can be certain.
There was just too much cloud cover to even get a glimpse.
Nice neighbor. You must know what you’re doing.
