Knew he was frail as I haven’t seen him at the Chicago conventions in the last couple of years.
I like to think of him in Fiddlers Green with Heinlein, Asimov, Tucker, Ackermann and others I loved as writers that have passed on. I am sure he is having wonderful adventure now.

I am posting this email from a friend who knew Fred from SF Conventions and who accompanied him on, I believe, his last trip to Lawrence KS.

“He has been a friend for over 30 years, and I’m going to miss him. Fred and I are both from Red Bank (NJ). When I was a kid. all his books that I borrowed from the library said “Gift of the author” inside the cover.

She was in San Antonio this weekend at, I believe a Jim Gunn award dinner.
