Has Cruz declared he is running for the presidency?

"I am convinced that the American people will conclude that anyone born a citizen of the United States is a natural born citizen. "

So you believe that a child born in the United States to illegal alien parents is a natural born Citizen?

I used to believe dual citizenship status had benefits and limitations. Apparently, no limitations for dual citizens.

On the bright side, I guess my dual citizenship brother-in-law could someday return to USA and govern us with his cool worldview. /s

The 1790 law says that a baby born overseas to US citizens is a natural born citizen.

The 1795 law says that a baby born overseas to US citizens is a citizen by RIGHT and by DESCENT.

So, a born citizen = a natural born citizen

OK now lets look at the Castro brothers..twins, over 35

If they were citizens at birth, they are eligible to run for president. But, no, they cannot both be president at the same time!

And, they can't be president anytime soon because 2017-2025 has been reserved for President Ted Cruz.

"Bobby was born in the US but his parents were citizens of India... Mario was born in the US but his parents were citizens of Cuba... so can either be POTUS ???"

No.

The Supreme Court of the United States has never applied the term “natural born citizen” to any other category than “those born in the country of parents who are citizens thereof”.

"The citizenship of no man could be previous to the declaration of independence, and, as a natural right, belongs to none but those who have been born of citizens since the 4th of July, 1776."....David Ramsay, 1789.

I am convinced that the American people will conclude that anyone born a citizen of the United States is a natural born citizen.

Our law is not decided by plebiscite. And that, under our Constitution, is what matters.

I believe that a person who is a United States citizen by birth is a natural born citizen. So, if your hypothetical person is a citizen by birth, then I believe that he or she is a natural born citizen.

I should rephrase that to ‘Not right now he is’t.’

That's right. Under the Constitution, our laws are decided by our Congress.

And, our presidents are "decided" by electors chosen by the people (nowadays).

What is your take as to the plural of ‘citizens’ which you note? I would assume that the ‘s’ to you has no plural significance. One parents citizenship has more importance/significance than the other depending on preference for a wanted purpose. I think not and I believe the Founders thought not.

So whether a mob says a person is a “natural born citizen” or not is irrelevant.

Has Cruz declared he's running for the presidency? Of course not. Everybody knows that!

Then why are you attacking him over it and weakening his efforts against ObamaCare and Illegal Amnesty?

In the 1790 and the 1795 law only the father had to be a citizen, if you read the laws closely.

After women’s equality, they were included in the citizenship laws on an equal footing with the males.

So, a born citizen = a natural born citizen

Incorrect. Hamilton’s suggested presidential citizenship eligibility requirement was that a Citizen simply had to be ‘born a Citizen’ of the USA, i.e., a Citizen by Birth. But that citizenship status was overwhelmingly rejected by the framers as insufficient.

Instead of allowing any person “born a citizen” to be President and Commander of the military, the framers chose to adopt the more stringent requirement recommended by John Jay, i.e., requiring the Citizen to be a “natural born Citizen“, to block any chance of future Presidents owing allegiance to other foreign nations or claims on their allegiance at birth from becoming President and Commander of the Military.. Therefore, the President of the United States must be a “natural born citizen” with unity of citizenship and sole allegiance to the United States at birth.

Below is the relevant change to Hamilton’s proposed language detailed in Jay’s letter written to George Washington dated 25 July 1787:

"Permit me to hint, whether it would be wise and seasonable to provide a strong check to the admission of Foreigners into the administration of our national Government; and to declare expressly that the Command in Chief of the American army shall not be given to nor devolve on, any but a natural born Citizen."

30+ years AFTER Ted was born...

He received a green card after they came to the US when Ted was 4...

I dont know what Ted’s father’s legal status was while he lived in Canada for those 5+ years...

But he wasnt an American citizen...

Levin suddenly wants to talk eligibility issues? Where were you in 2008 for Zero and McCain and Calero? Well concerning Zero, he along with the rest of the media talking heads were threatened from the Chicago liberal facists to protect their puppet. People have called his station on the natural born citizenship issue and were faded out not given air time. Coward. Constitutional bar doesn’t agree with you either on a foreign born person being natural born citizen Levin.
