Now that he has successfully defended himself from criminal charges brought against him by the state of Florida for the 2012 shooting death of Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman is going to resume a lawsuit he filed several months earlier against NBC News.
Launched in the midst of the state prosecution against him by a separate civil team, the lawsuit is a defamation claim alleging that NBC deliberately altered an audio recording so as to make Zimmerman appear to be racist.

Here’s hoping Zimmerman gets at least several million from NBC - and I hope he sues other LW MSM networks and the Federal Government, also.
I don't think they will risk discovery because if it becomes known in discovery that the Network manipulates the news especially in stories that deal with trials it will be open season on NBC and lawyers will be lining up clients to play the let's sue NBC lotto.
Especially given the editorial tack of the shows on NBC, and especially MSNBC.
They've been pushing the "Zimmerman is a racist" line from the very start, to this very day!

Jewell filed suit against his former employer Piedmont College, Piedmont College President Raymond Cleere and college spokesman Scott Rawles.[9] Jewell’s attorneys contended that Cleere called the FBI and spoke to the Atlanta newspapers, providing them with false information on Jewell and his employment there as a security guard. Jewell’s lawsuit accused Cleere of describing Jewell as a “badge-wearing zealot” who “would write epic police reports for minor infractions.”[1]
Piedmont College settled for an undisclosed amount.[11]

Jewell sued NBC News for this statement, made by Tom Brokaw: “The speculation is that the FBI is close to making the case. They probably have enough to arrest him right now, probably enough to prosecute him, but you always want to have enough to convict him as well. There are still some holes in this case”.[12] Even though NBC stood by its story, the network agreed to pay Jewell $500,000.[9]

On July 23, 1997, Jewell sued The New York Post for $15 million in damages and settled with the newspaper for an undisclosed amount.[13]

Jewell also sued the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper. According to Jewell, the paper’s headline, FBI suspects ‘hero’ guard may have planted bomb, “pretty much started the whirlwind”.[10] In one article, the Atlanta Journal compared Richard Jewell’s case to that of serial killer Wayne Williams.[14][15]
The newspaper was the only defendant that did not settle with Jewell. The lawsuit remained pending for several years, after having been considered at one time by the Supreme Court of Georgia, and had become an important part of case law regarding whether journalists could be forced to reveal their sources. The case was dismissed by Judge John R. Mather in December 2007, four months after Jewell’s death. The paper claimed this was proof of the accuracy of their coverage.[16]
CNN[edit]
Although CNN settled with Jewell for an undisclosed monetary amount, CNN maintained its coverage was fair and accurate.[17]
They won't have a choice. No way Zimmerman's attorneys will talk settlement at least until the discovery process is over so that they can assess the strength of their leverage.
I have no clue as to who any of those photos are.

I think that if you really look at what NBC said about Jewell, it is at least arguably reasonable reporting. They did say it was speculation, after all, which it was.
I think NBC's position with the Zimmerman tape edit is a lot more difficult. They were overtly manipulative and inflammatory, actually altering the facts to make Zimmerman look bad, when they had the proof that the conversation didn't go the way they portrayed it. IMHO, no way they get off with a $500k, or even a $1mm settlement.
O’Mara & Beasley are both named attorneys in the NBC lawsuit.
Zimmerman is not a public person. If he was he would have to prove malice aforethought. As a private citizen he just has to show they edited it for no reason. Even though everyone knows they did have malice aforethought.

Maybe the DOJ officials involved in ginning up clamor for this show trial should face § 1983 actions.
He should never agree to not talk. They had their heyday to spew whatever they liked, while he remained silent. Now it’s his turn.
He should agree that he can shout it from the rooftops, and that they cannor refer to him in any way for anything or pay the multi-million dollar settlement again.

NBC was chasing after Zimmerman because they thought he was white. So Zimmerman should circle back and take out NBC with a “ground and pound.”
Well, I agree that's probably the position they'll have to take, but I don't really think that will stand up under direct examination in a court room. Remember, the standard of proof is only "preponderance of the evidence." I think that edit, along with the fact that they showed the 12-year-old pic of Trayvon, and a lot of other reporting omissions, will make that a very questionable position for them to take.
Don’t be distracted. The Federal government is going to use sleight of hand, to keep our attention focussed on riots and demonstrations like the ones in Oakland, San Francisco and elsewhere, to try and give Boehner and Cantor breathing room to force amnesty for illegal aliens down our throats. DON’T LET THEM DO THIS!!
