Excuse the vanity, but the matter of Zimmerman getting out of his vehicle has not been understood by me. Why did that occur? I have not followed the trial as closely as many have and I've never quite gotten that. Thanks in advance. Kate
Me too! In fact so far I have gotten out of every car I have gotten into.
My goal is to keep that record going for many years to come...
No problem. Actually earlier in the conversation with police there was some talk from the officers asking George to get out and follow him, and George said “I don’t really want to do that.” He was already expressing some anxiety about actually following the person.
Also note, when he got out of his car, he did not immediately draw his weapon. If he was actually stalking and hunting Trayvon like the prosecution tried to paint him doing, that would have been the FIRST thing he would have done after getting out of his truck. You don’t hunt or stalk empty handed, you wind up getting caught off-guard. And considering they spent a great deal of time telling us of all his training he had, it is illogical he would have forgotten to do this first critical step (arm yourself) if he actually was hunting Trayvon down.
who cares? there is no law saying he could not.
the part to remember is who punched who first and then kept punching him while on the ground. And who was fearing for his life while having his head pounded in to the ground.
No, and no and no.
Because Janet Napolitano told him to. She told him to look out for citizens acting weird or suspicious.
He was just doing his civic duty.
to = no
TM on the other hand was at best a guest on thr property and may have been a trespasser
His neighborhood had had numerous breakins (probably from Skittles or someone just like him). Perfect night for breaking in. As Neighborhood Watch guy, the only way to see if the perp is breaking in is to walk between the buildings.
GZ was a diligent Neighborhood Watch Captain.
Police only show up on “suspicion person” call after sufficient time for them to take care of their business and leave. Zimmerman knew this from experience.
Unlike myself, who would have walked with a flashlight and a laser sighted hogleg in hand, GZ did not and it almost cost him his life.
That neighborhood can now count on less burglaries, the perps saw first hand what might happen.
This is exactly what Neighborhood Watch and Conceal Carry is all about.
Nope.
The 911 operator (who was not a member of law enforcement) asked Zimmerman if he was following Martin.
Zimmerman responeded that he was, at which time the 911 operator stated "We don't need you to do that."
That is a LONG way from being told to "stay put" and "not pursue" Martin.
Furthermore, since the 911 operater was not a LEO, Zimmerman had no responsibility to obey/follow any suggestions made by the 911 operator.
911 calls paint picture of chaos after Florida teen is shot
The above transcript of the 911 call tooke me a whole 15 seconds to find, using Google. And I'm out in the sticks, on dial-up.
Getting out of ones car is not a crime.
Self defense is not a crime.
He was found “NOT guilty” on all charges.
Case closed. Get over it.
Geesh I am tired of this. HE WAS NOT ORDERED TO, NOR WAS HE ASKED TO STAY IN HIS CAR. He was asked his location. It was dark and it was raining pretty heavily, so he got out his car. Is that okay with you?
YOU ASK WHY? WELL, BECAUSE A 911 OPERATOR IS NOT AUTHORITY AND THEY MOST LIKELY DO NOT WANT LIABILITY IF THEY GIVE THE WRONG ADVICE IN A SITUATION THEY ARE NOT PRESENT FOR.
and I should correct my last sentence, he was not chasing (following) Trayvon at this point, as he had lost sight of him and did not know where he had gone, hence his cautiousness at saying his home address out loud. My apologies at the obvious mischaracterization.
a better question is why did trayvon martin punch and jump on zimmerman then bash his head against the ground when he could have just gone home instead?
I really appreciate the timeline of events that you listed. And thanks to everyone else who provided thoughtful answers. Thanks.
This is why I posited the question here on this forum because there have been live-threads including many people following the trial intently who’d know the answer. Where my understanding has not been correct, it is very good to know what the facts really are. To my sadness, some have assumed my innocent question provocative; which is not my intent. I work very long days and do not have the time to follow these events. I have been on FR since 2002.
Short answer:
He wanted to see where he was and Martin went so he could give the locations to the police.
Long answer:
The question will garner derision because he had a perfect right to exit the vehicle, and the race hustlers and leftists have tried to use the fact that he exited the vehicle as evidence that he was “hunting” Martin with evil intent in his heart.
I like to call the leftist racist version “The Safari Tour Rule”. Apparently, if you leave the car and the animals attack, it’ s your own damn fault.
But the THC-paranoid child Trayvon had doubled back, and snuck up on Mr. Zimmerman before he could get to his car. Then the altercation occurred, with long-lasting consequences for the 12-year-old choirboy, I mean the 17-year-old burglar-thug. That's what I recall.
Succinctly -- and, from what I understand, correctly -- put. What you just described is what the totality of the evidence indicates happened. Zimmerman didn't "profile" anyone. If anything, the "racial profiling" that occurred in this incident was perpetrated by Martin, who apparently copped an attitude that a "creepy ass cracker" would dare take an interest in Martin's casing the houses to see which ones he might want to try to break into.
Zimmerman didn't "confront" anyone. Martin, having doubled-back (perhaps goaded to do so by his "girlfriend" to whom he was talking on his cell phone?), confronted Zimmerman and, like the little punk that he was, sucker-punched Zimmerman sans any provocation (unless "neighborhood watchman while white Hispanic" constitutes provocation).
Martin figured he'd make easy work of the pudgy Barney Fife-wannabe. Except that Barney's one bullet wasn't in his pocket this time. Fortunately for Zimmerman, it was in the chamber. And it was a great shot, under the circumstances, it seems to me.
The foregoing is the reality of the situation, as I see it. That the race-baiters and the Black Grievance Industry types would try to create a fantastical separate reality is par for the course.
Your question requires a bit of mind-reading, but I speculate on a possible scenario.
First, remember that the dispatcher asked Zimmerman twice to “let me know if he does anything else”.
When Martin took off running, the dispatcher asked Zimmerman “which way is he running?”
When the dispatcher testified in court, he admitted that a reasonable person could interpret those questions to imply that George should keep Martin in sight and continue to report his observations.
Impressive - two oft-repeated lies in one sentence.
1) GZ called the non-emergency number, not 911.
2) He was told that he didn’t need to follow TM, not to stay in his car.
Where do you get your news, MSNBC? You obviously haven’t been following the trial itself or the discussions here.
