Take the Impossible “Literacy” Test Louisiana Gave Black Voters in the 1960s

This week’s Supreme Court decision in Shelby County v. Holder overturned Section 4(b) of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, which mandated federal oversight of changes in voting procedure in jurisdictions that have a history of using a “test or device” to impede enfranchisement. Here is one example of such a test, used in Louisiana in 1964.

Maybe so, but I think they should give it to all potential voters. If you cannot get at least 70%, your a dumb as a box of rocks and should not be voting.

These tests were historically used by Democrats to suppress voters. I'd rather we not follow their lead.

Plus, 51% of the country voted for Obama last year, which means that plenty of people who could pass such a test can get to the voting booth and still be dumb as a box of rocks.

I’m a teacher. I have a history degree. I have three years teaching experience in Texas, but do not have my teaching certification yet. I have worked for a private parochial school here.

I have done quite a few jobs in the past, currently own a business where I do remote office work for a few clients and I have a tutoring business where I take on all comers.

I have about 6 years experience doing data entry for several companies as well.
