Richard Clarke has a grating personality and an ego that could a stadium all on it's own, but he does know about cyber attacks. So when he says the following, I'm inclined to believe him.

“I’m not a conspiracy guy. In fact, I’ve spent most of my life knocking down conspiracy theories,” said Clarke. “But my rule has always been you don’t knock down a conspiracy theory until you can prove it [wrong]. And in the case of Michael Hastings, what evidence is available publicly is consistent with a car cyber attack. And the problem with that is you can’t prove it.”

Like when the cops controlled the car in Minority Report when Cruise was escaping?

I’m not familiar with the specifics, but just about everything in cars that have been built recently is computerized. Some of it is just computer monitoring, but a good bit of it involves computerized control, or the ability to shut things down if the computer thinks there is a problem.

Lesson Learned: Get yourself an old-school model from the 60’s or 70’s that has minimal electronics.

My question is why was he out at 4:30 a.m. when most people are in bed or only out for compelling reasons like catching a plane or getting to an early job.

I heard on the news that they’ve unable to do a positive ID on the body found in the wreckage but they should have a toxicology report ready in two weeks. Sounds like they don’t know who burned up in that car but they can tell us whether or not he(or she) was drunk.

This could be one of those possible murders which never gets solved (like Vince Foster and Ron Brown). Richard Clarke has to do something to attract attention--no one is interested in hearing him explain that Bush was at fault in 9/11 any more.

In the old pre-high tech days, the bad guys in North by Northwest just poured a lot of booze down Cary Grant's throat. Of course Grant survived that episode because it was near the beginning of the movie and he was the star. But he had to pay the two dollars.

This afternoon Shep did a segment on this. The friend of Hastings who got the weird email, was shown in an interview and he said Hastings normally drove like a grandmother.

It was interesting to me that Shep did such a lengthy segment on it- including the statements by Richard Clarke.

Also today Hastings wife tweeted he was NOT working on the story abbout Kelly/Petraeus.

OK, it's possible.

But if it's possible, why wouldn't it be done in a way that would evoke less suspicion?

And, if it is possible remotely control someone's car, that doesn't mean it's possible to ensure an outcome like the one in this case.

If you’re going to kill someone for political reasons, I’d think you’d want it to be quite and deniable. You’d inject him with flu and pneumonia. You’d create a gas leak in his house and spark it with an old appliance. At the very least you’d do the old hit and run. You don’t do something spectacular. If you do, then you’re sending all sorts of messages. In Russia, a high value industrialist was killed with radioactive cesium in his telephone head set. Now, how many people can obtain or safely handle radioactive cesium? Only somebody government connected. So, that not only killed the guy, but sent a valuable message to others who might be inclined to not tow the line.

Who would “they” want to send a message to? Other journalists? What, there’s somebody threatening to publish Obama’s hidden records? Other journalists would kill them first.

I’ll buy into the possibility his car was remotely controlled and possibly involving a drone overhead. Entirely plausible.

"...the establishment media continues to portray the attack on Hastings as the delusional meanderings of conspiracy theorists."

Questions:

* Who sponsors the media?

* Who are the most valued constituents behind politicians implementing the programs desired by those constituents?

The way that thing exploded I think a world-wide recall must be in order!

With all the safety features in today's modern car, this inferno seems unlikely.

As someone with a little background in software, taking control of the vehicle is plausible. But I’ll get back to that in a moment.

We’re all pretty sure Hastings was up to something someone wasn’t happy about. That’s made clear by his electronic trail and his associates. I also haven’t seen the media write this off as a conspiracy theory to that degree either (anyone calling MSNBC media doesn’t belong on this site). We have to also remember that many in the media are just scared too - but don’t expect to hear that on the evening news.

Taking Hastings out in this fashion sends a message not because of the means, but simply because it happened, and most suspect it wasn’t an accident.

With that said, if you can remotely start, stop, unlock an get an email report from your vehicle, digital logic dictates it can be controller remotely if you know how to get in. However, there are overrides even in the latest vehicles or within the driver, e.g. emergency brakes, or simply brushing against other vehicles causing enough damage to slow yourself down.

On another note, I remember being told by someone whose parents survived tyranny that one of the hallmarks of a tyrannical state is when journalists become targets of the state, then start vanishing.

Just sayin’.

We had a long thread on this last night that got deleted.

Cyber attacking a car is very doable. It’s been done many times in tests.

That said, this recent revelation may be a Psy Ops to get people focused on this “outlandish” conspiracy in order to cover up something else.

There are easier ways to Breitbart someone.

As noted on Shep’s show, Hastings drove like a Grandma.

Btw, the body has been identified. According to the cornoner - by fingerprints.
