Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) opponents warned it would happen, but now theres mounting proof that full-time employees are being replaced with part-timers, at least in the retail industry where Walmart is focused on keeping the majority of workers to part-time hours only.
A new hiring policy uncovered by Reuters shows that nearly half of its stores are only hiring part-time employees, thus avoiding the mandate to provide health care or pay a fine.

40 hr work week is going away. Long a leftwing dream, I think the workers would prefer the money, but the Left wants them to have time on their hands so that they can engage in political rabble-rousing.
The people in that photo need to look past Wal*Mart and protest the reason Wal*Mart is doing this.
They don’t know how to think that far.
For every person in that picture who may go on strike, there are 200 people willing to take their place in the workforce.
The protesters better be careful what they wish for.
Obamacare may eventually turn nice girls into whores and guys into pimps.
Lots of whores and pimps in the central socialist government.
Wonder how many of the people in this photo voted for Obama.
THAT was the PLAN all along!! Get the workers riled up and HATING the management.......COMMUNITY ORGANIZER!
Collectivists have long agitated for labor laws that forced employers to have a shorter work week and more fringe benefits. Obama was one with them on this goal. Yet, the end result of his reaching for another collectivist goal of universal health care will result in massive numbers of lower-value positions being turned into part-time, with zero benefits.
Those working in these jobs will have to get multiple part time jobs and they will not qualify for employer group health plans at any employer, so their health insurance premiums will be higher. They will work more than 40 hours a week, maybe even 6 or 7 days a week, and their quality of life will drop. They will not be in jobs that can have overtime, so their net annual wages will not be higher, and maybe substantially lower.
Glad you voted for Hope and Change now? (Yet how many will still support Democrats and their tooth and claw efforts to retain and expand collectivist policies?)
I think they will be largely unaffected. I don't think many folks with actual jobs (other than govt and union employees) voted for Baraq.
When the SF NFL team moves to their new stadium next year, they are going to be called the 29ers.
I disagree. Nobody wants to take their place. The government has made it so that nobody wants to go back to work part or full time. There are so many hand outs it serves no purpose for some people to return to work. I work a 40 hour week but i see the same people every day hanging out on the corner or sitting on a step having a smoke with brown bag that has a bottle in it and they have been doing it since they were laid off. These people exist off the government hand outs and they are having a ball. Who would want to go back to work once they have learned the system.
Everything you say is true, but all those poor people working two part-time jobs know in their hearts that Obamacare failed because of evil Republicans.
Apparantly Walmart gets quite a few applications (into the hundreds) for every position they open up. My son said that management has recently admitted to him, where he works, that they can’t hire anyone though; they all fail the drug tests (Colorado...).
I know a guy who works at a large trash hauling outfit. They pay excellent money but struggle to find young guys who can pass the drug screen to get a commercial license.
Some employers have changed their employees to independent contractors - thus, getting around the 40 hour work week. The employers don’t deduct anything from their checks for taxes and the contractors pay their own at the end of the year. I know a few who are doing this. Sounds like a plan to me.
lol.
Nobody forces those protesters to work at Wal-Mart or to work for those wages. They are free to look for higher paying jobs, we have no caste system here.
