New research suggests wooly mammoths, the gigantic cousins of modern elephants, also died out as a result of climate change following a cosmic impactand that blast may have shocked human populations as well.
Either a comet scraping the atmosphere or a meteorite slamming into the Earth caused global-scale combustion, scorching the air, melting bedrock and altered the course of Earths history, according to researcher Kenneth Tankersley of the University of Cincinnati.
Tankersley said while the cosmic strike had an immediate and deadly effect, the long-term side effects were far more devastating similar to Krakatoas aftermath but many times worse making it unique in modern human history. Toxic gas poisoned the air and clouded the sky, he argues, causing temperatures to plummet.

All I can say is out neolithic ancestors had balls to go after a Mammoth with nothing but a sharp stick. To me this is incomprehensible or mammoth meat was really tasty. I am sure poking a mammoth really pissed off the mammoth.
Good point. Myself, I would not want to go after one unless I had a minimum of something like a .375 H&H or better yet, .458 Mag or .460 Weatherby. Better go for broke, how about using Ma Deuce, M2 machine gun? B-P
