Twenty ancient tombs have been discovered near the Three Gorges Reservoir in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, Xinhua news agency reported.
The tombs dating back to the Han Dynasty (202 BC - AD 220) were discovered at the Ma'anshan Tomb Site on the bank of Yangtze River in Fengdu County, the municipal cultural relics and archaeology institute said Saturday.
Archaeologists have found more than 430 artifacts in the tombs, including pottery, bronze and iron ware.
The institute said the tombs and artifacts will help archaeologists gain greater insight into local funeral customs and social and economic conditions during the Han Dynasty.
The Three Gorges Reservoir is on the upper-middle reaches of the Yangtze, China's longest river.

Did they perhaps find owebama’s birth certificate in any of the tombs?
No pictures in the article, even rough preliminary ones? In this day of cell phone cameras, if you’re going to break the news of an important discovery, there is no excuse to not send along a few pictures of it.
This is one of those problems the Chinese media seem to share. It’s particularly odd, considering how image-conscious the regime there is.
Makes me wonder what undiscovered sites lie under that reservoir.
