I have always been taught to never speak ill of the dead.... But. Better that this thief died, Running away down the sewer, like a rat, from Police. than burglarizing innocent people or families, leaving people to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives after a visit by this man or his ilk.

Just another example how the modern education system fails our young people.
This poor fool never heard of sewer gas. The fool jumps in the sewer and is dead within minutes from a lack of oxygen or hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, methane, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides.
Regardless you never go in to a confined space with out testing the atmosphere first. Confined spaces kill a half dozen people or more in this country every year.
