Actually no you CAN judge on statistics alone. Namath is in the HOF for making the guarantee and backing it up, thus erasing doubts in the merger (which actually very well might have ended due both to lack of competitive balance between the two leagues and financial failure of the first 2 championship games).

1 game does not make a guy above average. And of course you have to remember that 65 yards of that 316 came as YAC on the TD pass.

The simple reality is that Tebow is in the bottom 3rd to bottom 10th in almost every statistic. By the very definition of the words it is impossible for a guy to be below the median in almost every measurable way AND above average.

Namath is in the HOF for making the guarantee and backing it up,

Namath was drunk when he responded to a heckler. No one made a big deal about it until after the game. A game in which the Jets defense made the difference with 4 interceptions. The Jet's Matt Snell rushed for 121 with one TD, and had 40 yards receiving. Then there was Namath with 209 yards passing with no TD's and no turnovers. Not horrible, but not great either.

1 game does not make a guy above average.

I take it that's your way of admitting that Tebow had a very good game. OTOH, you're willing to put Namath in the HOF based on a drunken boast and a mediocre game in which his defense dominated.

By the very definition of the words it is impossible for a guy to be below the median in almost every measurable way AND above average.

The best way is to look at the total win/loss record since you don't want to look at one game. 8 and 5, which is above average by the very definition of the words.
