Looks pretty good. I’d say it’s like way new Bond is to old Bond. Different but good.

ping for later when I’m home. Very eager to see this movie, I loved the reboot a few years ago.

Was reading the background of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Seems Roddenberry had by then become demented and demanded that the final cut be changed to his specifications. Two days before he died he filed a suit against Paramount to be given complete control of the final cut plus big financial damages. His death ended the suit.

My gripe with the Abrahms version of ST is that it is all FX, 2-dimensional characters, and stupidity after plot stupidity. Just bad writing. IOW, ST movies have been reduced to just big video games. And another excuse to use theater mega-bass speakers to rattle your teeth.

2-dimensional characters, and stupidity after plot stupidity.

Agreed! Hopefully they've hired a writer for this sequel.

Sorry to disagree but your analysis is shallow.

The new Star Trek was brilliant, he recaptured the original characters dead on and in some cases upgraded them as in Uhura.

There was so much homage to the ST series and movies, it was incredible. Even Spock becoming an “endangered species” as a hat tip to Leonard Nimoy’s save the whales work in real life.

It was a masterpiece, and to say the scripts for the original series or movies were all that deep would be a stretch, with notable exceptions.

As for the action and FX, hell yeah! That was one fast paced, clever, fun ride.

The last movie was so good and loved that it is cited as the reason for expanding the number of Best Picture Academy Award nominations so that fan favorites “like Star Trek” can be nominated in the future. The picture was terrific some of you are grouches.

We all have our own tastes, but I disagree. Once I got past the weirdness of the reboot idea, the characters grew on me. Kirk is much deeper than in TOS or the movies. Spock is much more human, and developed. I like the new Kirk... a slightly troubled, genius bad/good guy. The new McCoy is interesting, etc.

I like it, I’m looking forward to this release.

last comment: Star Trek without a lot of special effects. Yeah, that would work. /s

Abrahms might just save Star Wars for us too if we’re lucky.

I wonder if the Cumberbatch character is a temporal or Section 31 agent gone rogue? Might explain the sovereign or voyager class looking starship at 1:16. I saw a leaked production still of the Uhura character fighting someone wearing a temporal agent style uniform.

10-Q for the pingie!

That’s the best trailer I’ve seen for it so far. It’s on our Netflix list already, but we’ll probably just buy it, for we have everything Star Trek.

Co-star Karl Urban had stated that Cumberbatch would be playing Gary Mitchell, a character from the original series episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before", but that is unconfirmed by the production team.

So Kirk gets shot onto an ice planet - why? Is that how the Federation handles disciplinary matters? Oh right, its in the script.

And a minute after he lands in a desolate icy wasteland the first person he meets is ... oh right, Old Spock. That’s not an awesome plot twist: that’s a desperate act of Deus Ex Machina.

Plus the Bad Guy is a zero-dimensional villain. He made the bald guy from Nemesis look nuanced and believable. And I’m here to tell you that the guy from Nemesis wasn’t nuanced and believable.

ST had strengths. Hopefully the new film will build on those strengths and also be based on a coherent script.
